I'm a believer and I don't feel drinking in moderation is wrong.

We are against drunkness and all the problems that come with alcoholism. Jesus made wine. It is questionable in the bible whether wine is alcoholic or not. They talk about good and bad wine. I am not sure which is bad - the alcoholic or non alcoholic. Anyway, loving Jesus has nothing to do with drinking. That is a really silly question. Jesus turned over tables in the synogog - does that mean that we don't love him because we don't do that?

Christians who speak against drinking are truly warning of the evils of drunkenness. In Jesus' time it was the norm to drink wine or grape juice with a meal. Clean drinking water was scarce, and the dietary laws forbid dairy drinks with meat.

A Christian is only against drinking in terms of abuse and alcholism that may stem from it. Jesus says to live a clean, holy life and for some drinking can lead to a sinful life. Alcohol can make you do things you normally wouldn't do. Drinking a glass of wine to relax is much different than drinking Jack Daniels to get wasted.

I'm a Christian, and I'm not against drinking. Neither is my church. Wine is served at Communion, and champagne and wine are served sometimes at church events and fundraisers. Yes, the Bible mentions Jesus drinking wine. However, it doesn't mention Him getting drunk. The problem doesn't lie with drinking alcoholic beverages; it lies in getting drunk and behaving in an abusive or self-destructive manner.

Whoever told you this was mistaken bordering on lying. The Bible does not say that we cannot drink but that we must not become a drunken fool.
Coffee P : Several instances in the Bible say wine as in strong drink and they are not forbidden to us. I don't know where or what you're reading but I think the best thing to say would be to take your own advice dear.

It's one thing to have a drink with meals or Communion. It is a whole different ball of wax when you over indulge in Alcoholic beverages to purposely get drunk, endangering the lives of not just yourself But others. It is classified as being a Glutton.........Deuteronomy 21:20, Proverbs 23:21 1st Timothy 5:23, 1st Thessalonians 5:22.

you incredibly choose for to look at Galatians 5:19-21, particularly verse 20 and the word "witchcraft." Do your own learn of it. (The Greek word translated "witchcraft" is the same root word that provides us "pharmcology." ) Poison Ivy happens needless to say, yet this is not best for you externally, and particularly internally. some issues have been meant to be ingested, and others have been meant to be prevented. some mushrooms are fit to be eaten, some are hallucinogenic, and others will kill you interior of minutes. Vipers are actually not good to mingle with as a human, yet they save the rodent popluation down. temper changing chemical components must be prevented because of the fact it opens a non secular portal to the darkish ingredient of the spirit realm. despite the fact that if those chemical components come from drugs, alcohol, or the different medium, you relinquish your spirit over to a spirit over which you have no longer any administration.

I think people figure not drinking is the safest way not to get carried away.
For instance a drink here and drink there, that's cool.
Getting wasted, not cool.
Getting addicted, so not cool.
So if you don't drink there isn't a risk of getting drunk and doing stupid things or getting addicted.
Addiction controls you.
The Bible speaks about not getting drunk on wine but being drunk on the Holy Spirit instead.

Since when has it been bad for Christians to drink alcohol?
Im from Britain and we have been a nation of alcoholics for 1,500 years...and always been christian.
Even Christians in Iran have special privileges to buy and drink alcohol as long as its not in front of Muslims (Everyone think Irans so bad...but its not as bad as Bush wishes everyone to believe).
I have never heard of Christians not being allowed to drink and would love to hear where this came from (I am a Christian and proud...but also love a good drink now and then).
