You knew that they would murder you for it later?

There is no doubt that anyone who is hit will feel angry and resentful. What usually happens though is time heals and by the time *later* comes everyone has hopefully forgotten bad times. Or if not forgotten at least they view things with a different perspective. Most adults who were smacked as children will assure you that it didn't do them any harm. I don't think that excuses hitting your children in turn, but I do think we need to cut parents a bit of slack. If they resort to hitting it means they're making a mistake, but they don't deserve to be murdered for it.

I never felt any anger or resentment for spankings that were explained and deserved for misbehavior.
The only physical contact I feel resentment for were the undeserved slaps across the face because mommy was in a bad mood or the paddling I got in the 2nd grade and still to this day I don't know what I did to deserve it.
I've been abused and I've been physically disciplined and trust me there is a difference. But neither of them has made me into a murderer nor do I harbor any ill will toward the perps. What makes me a healthy person is the fact that I can forgive!

if my child was that psychotic so as to kill me for punishing them when they misbehave i'd probably have them committed. you can hardly ask that question. would you give your child rules if you knew they would murder you for it later? that's hardly a question.
