The tallest dog breed is the Irish Wolfhound (however, Great Danes are up there!), the heaviest dog breed is the English Mastiff.
However, Hercules is named the biggest dog in the world by the Guiness Book: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://dailyupload.files.wordpress.com/2007/04/bigdog.jpg&imgrefurl=http://dailyupload.wordpress.com/2007/04/25/hercules-the-worlds-biggest-dog-ever/&h=318&w=480&sz=35&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=LXDhCFJuVcTK0M:&tbnh=85&tbnw=129&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbig%2Bdog%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den

The tallest breed is the Irish Wolf hound and the heaviest is the English Mastiff so it really depends on what you mean by large.
I've heard that there is a taller than usual Great Dane quoted in the press as the largest dog but as it still probably doesn't weigh as much as a Mastiff I'm not sure it deserves the title. Tallest ever yes. but not largest.
edit just looked at Vet Techs link! That Hercules definately fits the bill................ I could ride him and I doubt he'd even notice my 94lbs on his back!

The largest breed is the Great Dane and the largest recorded Dane lives in California.
This story was run in the Sun newspaper recently and could probably be found by looking at their website.
If not a Dane, a Wolfhound or maybe a Newfoundland? but the biggest dog alive right now is a dane

It all depends upon how significant your condominium is. When you live in a small rental, big dogs are usually not an excellent thought. Out of doors dogs are mostly used for guarding purposes, but it surely's premier to have enough yard area in order that it may well move around freely. Indoor dogs aren't a drawback, so long as they're apartment-damaged and correctly trained ordinarily.

At number 10 is the Caucasian Shepherd Dog. They are quite large but are not very heavy, a fully grown adult male should be about 70 centimeters tall (28 inches) and can weigh about 45 kilograms (99 pounds). They are a sturdy breed, with somewhat aggressive temperaments. They are mildly intelligent, and very obedient breed that was bred in the Caucus Mountains to fend against mountain predators.

irish wolf hound is the tallest dog, its the one that looks like an XXL greyhound but with long grey rough feeling fur.
then followed by the great dane which tends to be shorter but fuller built.
the smallest dog i believe is the teacup chihuahua.
