You need to take some American Civics lessons, and learn how your Federal government operates. President Bush alone has NO power to ban anything in this nation. However, Congress (made up of your congressman or woman, and your two senators) did pass a bill banning EMBRYONIC stem cell research only, and President Bush signed it into law. Just to clarify, this law does not ban ALL stem cell research (there are many different kinds) - but it DOES ban research done on already formed human embryos, using them as test research, instead of respecting them as human life. As an aside, I totally agree with banning embryonic stem cell research, and am in total favor of all other kinds.(such as on adults, or umbilical cord blood after delivery)

He pondered if for a while, then he came down from the mountain and issued his wise decree (thinking it was a compromise). He didn't ban it entirely, but allowed federal funding on stem-cell research on the small number of existing stem cell lines (most of which were really unusable already) and didn't allow federal funding on any 'new' stem cell lines.

Now, any stem cell research going on in the US is not federally funded. So, it was really about the federal funding for stem cell research, not banning the research itself.

He didn't ban it, no. He said that only privately funded stem cell research centers can be founded and there can be no more government funded stem cell centers than those that already exist.

No. He simply made it so that embryonic stem cell research could not be funded by our taxes.

Stem cell research, especially ADULT stem cell research, is very much legal, and is government funded.

He limited funding for EMBRYONIC stem cell research, and put a hold on researching any new lines for EMBRYONIC stem cell research.

vetoed funding. His first veto. I don't know what Primora remembers, he didn't veto anything for 5-1/2 years.

"This bill would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others," Bush said Wednesday afternoon. "It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect. So I vetoed it"

He acts like people would start getting pregnant and aborting if this was passed.

He vetoed any any funding and of course true to form lied about what was available for research.

At any rate California stepped up to the plate and funded it. I also hope the state makes the rest of the country pay through the nose and every other orifice for any medical applications.

At the very beginning of his term back in 2001..........I remember it well.

He allowed for the embryos which were already frozen to be used......and then cut off funding for anything else.
