Yes he can, it won't harm him. You could also cook him some chicken (boneless) if you have some around. But the cat food will do until you can get some puppy food. Congrats on your new puppy! What kind is he? :)

I just wanted to add that one day won't hurt him, contrary to what some are saying. Yes it is higher in protein, fat and taurine but as long as it's just for a day don't worry about it. My pug eats it all the time.( dry kibbles though) She doesn't get the runs or digestive problems but is fatter than she should be.

I have been raising dogs for many years. There have been times that that was all I had on hand too. Mine are all alive and well. lol

Step One: Bring Puppy inside. It is to cold for him to be outside if this is the weather. Put him in your laundry room or a spare bathroom of set up a blockade and put the igloo in there that way if there is an accident it's in a confined area and easy to clean up. Step Two: Cat food is OK, but not the best. I would recommend getting some recipes for dog food. My mom cooked my puppy when he was little some tuna with cheese. Or something like that. She got it from a recipe after doing some research. Also chicken soup with rice will be good as well. Just whatever you have. Look up dog food recipes. He will eat normal dog food afterwards. It may just have to have some different flavors (Not all brown kibbles.)

Yes, it won't hurt him a bit. Dog food and cat food are actually close in the ingredients. The only differences are that cat food is smaller and they use the flavors cats tend to like more. But dogs can like those flavors just as much. The same thing happens to me. Sometimes we run out of cat food and I have to give my cat dog food. She likes it. If the puppy doesn't like it, try mixing in cheese and things like that, nothing to bad, just to help them. Also, my dogs take my cats food from her dish all the time and they are some of the healthiest animals I know. Just make sure it is only a few times not constantly. Then it could possibly get sick. Well good luck, and have fun with the puppy!

Hopefully, you haven't already fed him. It would be better not to give him the cat food. Plain rice, oatmeal, or cream of wheat (no milk) would be better than the cat food. Some plain boiled chicken, hamburger or even vegetables would be okay. Even some bread dipped in chicken broth would be okay. Just don't over feed him. A lot depends on how old he is and how long he has been away from his mother and litter mates, what breed he is and how big he is. GOOD LUCK!!!

It is true that puppies love cat food. But it can give them lots of medical problems. It has too much nutrients for dogs to handle, even for one day. Give the pup plenty of water and a little bit of bread, no butter, bits of bannanas, or a little bit of soft meat. Don't give your dog very much of these though, and only for a day. These can give him/her a little bit of diarria if you give too much. As soon as possible give him regular puppy food. Do not give him milk. Our milk is from cows and will upset his stomach. If you are not sure than just don't. Good luck! And don't let him/her run a lot or anything to save energy until he has proper food.

Yes it is ok, and it should not cause too many problems. Cat food is very high in fat though so he might get a bit loose.

Incidentally, apart from the high calorie content dogs can eat cat food but a cat can potentially get sick if fed only dog food. This is because cat food contains extra taurine, an amino acid that cats can't manufacture for themselves.

I would not give the puppy cat food unless you want a sick pup with bad runs! Cant you borrow 2 cups of food from someone you know who has a dog?
If not than cook some rice and give the pup this with some cooked hamburger or cooked plain chicken.
Cat food is very rich and will upset the pups stomach very much.

it will give him diarea, and cat food isn't good for dogs because the higher protein is bad for their kidneys. But most likely it won't kill the puppy. I would give him some litly boiled meat chicken breast is the best and some plain cooked rice if you have it.

You can feed im human food. I think that's better because cat food is different to dog food. But no chocolate and that sort of stuff, it's bad.

No cat food. It will make your puppy sick. Can't you borrow a few bucks? Try some cooked chicken, rice, lean meat. It's important not to change puppy's diet. They have a sensitive digestive system. Much better to find the way to get him what he needs than to have throw up and diarrhea all over your house and a vet bill to go with it.
