I am the maid of honor at my best friends wedding and I am writing my speech. So far it is about 3 minutes long with added time for laughs because some of it is funny. I would like to add more because there is so much I can say but I don't want to take toomuch time.

There is no time limit to a toast/speech for a wedding, just don't over extend your welcome to the mic with boredom and non sense/senseless issues. I think your 3 minutes plus is good. I'm sure adding a few more minutes will not be a problem. The important thing is that you let them know what you think and how you feel and of course don't forget those wonderful times you and the bride/groom had/spent together. Not to mention adding a little of your own sense of humor will probably make things a bit more interesting for the guests and they will probably not mind how long the speech may take. Enjoy the event. I'm sure it will be a memorable one. Good luck to you as well as to the bride and groom.

2-3 minutes is good! Speeches are generally done before everyone eats. Most people are hungry and don't want to sit through an hour of talk ;) Is the best man doing a speech as well? That is definitely something to consider.

I went to a wedding last night and the maid of honor didn't plan anything. When she went up there she just talked to the bride and told her how great she is. I think everyone loved it because you could tell it wasn't planned out, but it was heartfelt and it was only about a minute or two.

the best toasts i've heard the ones that are on the shorter side and get to the point.

the last toast i heard, the maid of honor went on for a boring 7 minutes of incoherent randomness (she sounded as if she was making it up on the spot)...she just kept droning on and on.

now, the best man only spoke for about 3 minutes but his speech was much, much better than the maid of honor's.

Anything over 5 minutes may be a little too much. But if you have more to say, by all means, say it. Gauge your audience. If you're getting laughter, you're giving the audience the service of entertainment. I say a (semi) long, lively & fun speech is way more memorable and welcomed than a dull, uninformative short speech.
The wedding party is lucky to have you. Enjoy!

3 minutes is a long time. Especially if guests are standing. It shouldn't contain stories. You should congratulate the couple, wish them happiness, health and humor and sit down. It's not even customary for the MOH to give a toast so be sure they are even expecting it.

In my experience, keep it on the short side. I had two maids of honor and theirs was about four minutes total for the two of them. Keep it long enough where you can get your feelings out, but short enough that people will not get bored. Be honest and to the point.

Never heard of a maid of honor toast. Most every wedding I have been to, the BEST MAN toasts the bride and groom.

Hey me, short and sweet, say something nice , somehting personal about them, then wrap it up with something really funny, my sisters wedding toast was ended by the best man having everyone raise their glasses to "the best match since Ali and Frazier"...........

3 minutes is too long. Shouldn't be more than a minute at MAX. You are going to bore people.
