what to do you have to say to people who have washed themselves clean of their guilt for committing terrible crimes against humanity simply by accepting god into their hearts? i mean, if you didn't believe in god, how else would you rid yourself of you guilt? it's impossible, isn't it? i mean do you really expect people to take responsibility for their own actions and not do these things? it's impossible because we're all sinners. so what are we supposed to do? just live with guilt for the rest of our lives?

Your mind is a powerful thing, and if you can convince yourself that your sins are magically erased, then there really is a purple dragon!

Why should you rid yourself of guilt? Not asking you personally since that seems to be where you're headed also. Guilt is a great motivator and no one should simply be able to go through some guilt shower.
Guilt is pretty much our only way to learn not to do bad things. Someone is going to argue that comes from god or religion but religion doesn't stop people from doing bad things. In fact it's often used as a justification for bad things.

I have things in my past that I am not particularly proud of, but instead of using an imaginary friend as a crutch, I try to tell myself that I am human and I make mistakes like everyone else. The important thing is that I learn from my mistakes so I don't make them again and cause myself the pain.
Guilt is a tool used by religion to torture people into believing in god. I use it to change myself for the better.

It's not bad because most people can't deal with responsibility and have a yearning for absolution from that is so powerful that logic is unappealing. They will set their own course and eventually, after many lives of suffering, might start to think and ask the paraphrased Dr Phil's question. How is this working for me?

People should not have their guilt removed, until they have made the effort to change themselves into a different type of person, who no longer would engage in such behavior. Not all religions, let you off the hook so easily. Religion should inspire people to positively contribute to this world, and to work on becoming a moral example of proper behavior. We need religions, to update their spiritual ideas and training techniques, so that they will be effective in elevationing the level of morality, which is a requirement of our highly technlogical age, in which small mistakes, can have huge consequences.

Just because THEY feel better about themselves it means nothing. They still hurt people and they are still jerks for doing so. I don't care about them forgiving themselves for it, I care about others forgiving them for it.
Yes, its possible to not feel guilt... otherwise why are there so many people in prison? You don't seriously think they ALL feel bad about the bad things they did do you?
I take responsibility for my actions, its many of the religious that don't.
Yes, you need to feel guilty about the things you do. It means that you hopefully wont repeat it. Guilt helps you learn and keeps you from hurting others.

You say this question is for who think all religions are bad.
Yes I am one of them who do not like organised religions. I wonder who brought this theory of original sin or that we all are sinners because when we will believe this only then we will go into their clutches to get enslaved.
What is the definition of Sin. If we do crimes, we get punished by law. People with whom we live they hate us. We get enough punishment in one farm or the other.
I believe this is all about fooling people that they all are sinners and if they adopt some organised religion, will be forgive. I hate their philosophy of forgiveness for sinners like you mentioned in your question.

we are not sinners, we are humans. we make mistakes, and we don't need gods to absovle us. it is sufficient to live your life as best you can and learn from your mistakes. by reflecting on my mistakes and accepting the lesson learned, i absolve my guilt without burdening my gods with my whining.
the logical conclusion of your argument is that if all you have to do is ask god for forgiveness, what keeps you from continuing to do evil deeds? my sense of personal responsibility keeps me from doing bad things, not my gods.

I think there's something wrong about being able to convert into a religion and then get rid of all your guilt for what you've done.Just my opinion.
