Hate to shatter your ego buddy but why would the Air Force budge for some kid who only wants one job when we have twenty behind you willing to serve to serve their country and not be a pain in the ***. Your a number, plain and simple. People used to do the entire process in one day, but it doesn't work like that anymore. If the job isn't available there is no way the Air Force can give it to you. Hope you stay away from my office.

Nope, they will tell you to take a walk.
The Air Force has more people than the need trying to enlist.
Also, only 40% of Air Force jobs are available at Meps.
60% of the AF jobs, are reserved to be assigned during basic training.
So it could very well be, that the job you want, just doesn't have any openings while you are at meps.
You can always walk away, if you don't get the job you want.
But be warned, walking away, will mean you can pretty much forget about enlisting in the AF for atleast 6 months to a year.
While at Meps, they will tell you several jobs, that they will guareentee you a chance at, right then and there.
Those will be hard to fill jobs, that your asvab scores qualify you for.
Also note, no service guarentees you will do a specific job in the military.
They guarentee you will go to a specific Tech School.
But if you flunk out of the Tech School, then they can assign you any job they want to.

If you read your contract, you'll see that you agree to serve where the Air Force needs you most, not necessarily where you want to be. While they will certainly try to put you where you want to be, there is no way to reliably promise that such a post will be available - and, quite frankly, they might decide you're not right for that job. It's possible - but very uncommon - that none of your five choices will be available. In the event of emergency or pressing need, you can be assigned anywhere they think is best, even reassigned from your existing post. And yes, the Air Force is notorious for putting people where they don't want to be - mainly because everyone wants to be a pilot and they don't really need that many. The Air Force has more load masters than pilots.
If it's that important to you to get the exact job you want, apply to a civilian outfit.

For starters, in the air force they do not use the term MOS (military occupational specialty), they use the term AFSC (air force specialty code). MOS is a term used in the other branches of service. I enlisted in the active air force in 1984 with a guaranteed AFSC. If they do not still have that program with the active duty component, then join the air force reserve. They definitely do have that program and if you like the military life, then transfer to active duty. Going from the reserve to the active component is only a matter of paperwork. I don't blame you for insisting on a guaranteed job. I started out enlisted and worked my up to a Major. I have been both active duty and reserve. Joining the USAF was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am still in..... Major R.

The Air Force does not, under any circumstances, guarantee a MOS prior to MEPS. Even people who enlist under technical advanced placement are not guaranteed that MOS on entry. (eg, if you're already a paramedic, and enlist as such, you'll get the promised rank after you leave Lackland, but they "might" send you to tech school to train as an armorer or something unrelated.

Meps is a hell hole. DO NOT sign unless your job is in writing. They can do it, you may have to put up a fight to have them though. That is if your scores on the ASVAB meet the requirements. It being in your contract just HELPS your chances though. Its also in there that they can change it at any time.

In 1967 I enlisted in the Army for four years; I chose my MOS prior to signing on the dotted line. My two brothers chose the AF because they didn't want to go to Viet Nam. In Dec of 1980 I enlisted again in the Army and chose my MOS prior to signing.
Coincidentally, both of my brothers went to Viet Nam, I did not. I chose to go into nuclear weapons they chose jet engine maintenance. My point is: there are other branches of the military to enlist in, there is aviation in the Army and the Navy; consider other options.

We used to have a guaranteed job program.....but you need to know if your ASVAB scores qualify you....Has your recruiter been calling it MOS? Might need a different recruiter.
