Your sister is talking about a huge stereotype - that everyone in LA is obsessed with their looks, and therefore diets and shops constantly. Yes, there are many women in LA who are like this, but there are also many who aren't.
Tell your sister it's mean to stereotype, and her words say far more about HER than they do about anyone else.
