Different painters represented different eras in Russian Culture
Andrei Rublev (c.1370-1430), the great icon painter was truly representative of his times. Rublev was a monk in the monastery of the Trinity-St. Sergius monastery where the emphasize in Rublev's own words were "fraternity, calm, love (toward) God and spiritual self-improvement" .These qualities - gentleness and harmony were reflected in his paintings

This can be hard to answer because comparably speaking, there isn't alot of info on Eastern European artists like there is for Western European art.

Do a search for "Russian Nationalism Art" or "R... N... Artist"

Repin was a major Russian Nationalism painter, so was Aivazovskiy.

You want to look for landscape paintings that have people in them...alot of ship paintings, etc..these were the most common in Russian art from 1300-1800 or so.
