The question is, why dont they have their own?

And the answer is probably because they screwed up their finances through their irresponsibility.

It is very dangerous for you to continue to let them have access to your accounts. All it takes is one time for them not to pay you, or to use it without your permission.. if they were not responsible with their own finances, why should they really care about yours?

Once you give a debit or credit card number to DirecTV, they will continue to debit the account every month automatically, without additional authorization from you. Even if the person who is giving you the money up front stops doing so, DirecTV will continue to take money from your account. Directv even continues to charge the debit or credit card for an average of approximately two months after the subscriber attempts to cancel the service.

I take it you mean that you are simply paying their bill with your debit card as it can be done via the internet. Do not give out your pin number to anyone. No, just because you pay a bill for someone does not mean that your credit rating will be messed up. The person who the bill is in name, is the party who retains the credit history for the particular bill. They don't really care who they get the actual payment from, and your credit will not be penalized for paying a bill for someone else.

Do you mean credit card?

No, I wouldnt give anyone my credit card (OR debit card).
Even if they have always paid you, it doesnt mean their situation couldn't change-- what if they get tight financially and arent able to pay you back? Or if you have a falling out? Or whatever. it's just too risky.

And yes, if you mean a credit card, it does affect your credit if it's not paid, even if the subscription is not in your name. AND you would have to pay interest if it's not paid off in time.

Good grief no!!!! When you give them the card and your PIN, there's nothing to stop them from taking out every cent in your account. If they have the money to give you up front, why don't they just get a money order and pay Direct TV directly?

if it's not in your name, how can it effect your credit?
why are they paying you if it's in there name? your debit card is in your name so you would seem to be involved in this scheme as far as i can tell. so long as you pay the bill, that would protect you. if they ever don't pay you upfront beware
you still are going to have to pay that debit card bill to protect your credit. does direct t.v. take the money from your account? but is the account in the other peoples name?
didn't know any company would do that.

Nope. It's opening up a whole nest of vipers, so to speak. They have poor credit or poor payment history, therefore they have no checking account, and want to use yours in order to be able to open their account or to keep it open. Don't go there! People need to learn to stand on their own. If they can't keep themselves together enough to have a checking account and pay their own bills....what in the world are they doing signing up for an extravagance like DirectTV?

It's never a good idea to give anyone any kind of access to your banking accounts. Tell them no. Trust me. I have a friend who asks me to do this all of the time....I finally told her the "cash cow" was dead and if she wanted to stay friends with me, she wouldn't ask me any more.

The problem isn't that they're using it for something in their name. The problem is that they're USING IT!

You should never give your card details to anyone else to use, even if you trust them. The way to do it, if you want to be helpful, is to have them give you the money and YOU make the purchase. Fraud is such a big thing in finance these days, one thing can lead to another and you have no idea who's keeping your details!

No - its not in your name & will not affect your credit.
Now if they were to take your debit card & purchase things to over draw your account - that WOULD affect your credit.

Debit cards are like cash - only loan out what your willing to lose.

Never. Not even your spouse.
If someone other than yourself knows your PIN then if any skimming activity occur in your card, the bank may not refund your money.
