I left my iPod at my gym last week. Now in my local Craigslist I found someone posting ads for an iPod matching mine's description being sold without headphones or the usb cable (which someone who found it wouldn't have either).

I have e-mailed them asking if the iPod has any music loaded onto it, and if it does, and it turns out to be MY iPod, what should I/can I do?

You should contact the police and they will advise you.

Honestly, there is very little you can do. Did you already file a police report stating that you lost your iPod? If not, since it's been over a week, you're looking to be **** outta luck. It's too sketchy to file a report NOW.

If you did, print the page out and write down what music you had put on there. Give every detail about your iPod.

Then take it to the department you filed the report with. They may or may not give a ****, really depends on the number of tickets they've handed out.

I wouldn't kill him. Since it was premeditated, that's 3rd Degree murder and you're looking at 25+ years here. It's not worth an iPod... unless its a U2 edition.

Good luck in trying to get your iPod back. Hell, the best you could do is go ask to check it out, but meet him in a local place! Preferably, the township the gym is in. Then, when you go to see it and MAKE SURE IT IS YOURS. Turn around and run like hell!

a) the guy gets skeeved and leaves hoping to not get into trouble

b) the cops/security come over and teh situation MUST be investigated. Hold your guns that its your iPod, and when the police come, show them the evidence!

Ok, here's what you do:

1st, call your local precinct and explain this. Do not call 911 - this is not an emergency.

2nd, tell the police you want someone to go with them to see it.

3rd, set-up a time with seller as usual. Just act like you are a regular Joe wanting an Ipod. Don't ask about the songs like you did, they may know now.

4th, bring a copy of your itunes list - take you computer if laptop - and show the cop. That will end it right there. If it is not it at least you can file the report with the police person.

Good luck!

Call the police department explain what happened and ask what you should do! In the meantime call and tell them you are VERY interested in the IPOD b/c your recently died and can't be fixed, make up some story to keep them from selling it to someone else. Set up a time to meet. Either pay and buy it from this person or get the police involved!!

tell them you'd like to arrange a meeting at a secured environment (let's say the gym) where you would like to see the ipod. meanwhile, alert the gym that your ipod is missing, including all the information you know of your ipod.
you should tell the seller that you're very interested in replacing your ipod and would like to 'check out' the ipod before accepting to buy it.

im srry, but u really have no proof that that ipod was yours unless the guy who is selling it admits. You might want to tell police, but most likely buy another ipod... its that simple

pretend youre interested in buying at top dollar. go see it and
check the song list to see if he erased it or not. If yours has any distinguishing scratches or marks like yours, politely ask him where he got it. Ask him if belongs to the same gym as you, try reasoning with him adult to adult. good luck dave

You should ask them nicely for it back. If they don't cooperate call the police. Then Describe your iPod, the songs on it and other details.
