cats...
My friend has three kittens she needs to get rid of but I am scared my car will not like it.
My cat is three and has never been around another cat.
My neighbor got a kitten and my cat freaked out-hissed, etc
IS that normal?
Can I leave them alone?
Help!

Cats usually spat a bit when a new kitty is brought into the household. I do find it strange that your cat freaked out over the neighbor's kitten- unless your cat views the neighbor's yard as part of his territory.

What you need to do is have someone your cat doesn't recognize as 'family' bring the new kitten in. Keep them separate from each other the first couple of weeks- but where they can smell each other. Then let them meet. Don't fret if there is some hissing and spitting: Your older cat will want to make sure the youngster understands that HE'S the boss. Watch, but don't interfere unless there is real danger to the youngster.

Meanwhile, make sure to give your older cat plenty of attention.

The above is for if you decide to get a kitten. But don't do it if you don't feel comfortable about it.

No, when you first get them keep the kitten locked in a spare room, [if you lock your older cat in a room it will think you favor the new one].

Give them equal amounts of attention.

After a while let the kitten out under your supervision.

Yell at the older one or spray it with water if it's mean to the baby.

After a couple weeks they'll get used to eachother.

you can at least try. my cats are three years apart. the older one was grouchy about having a kitten around at first but now they are ten and seven years old. the older one pratically raised the younger one. it might work out. i doubt your cat will actually beat up a kitten. and it also sometimes takes cats a week to adjust to one another. your cat is still young enough that he still occasionaly will act like a kitten and might actually enjoy playing with one

The answer would be no. Your cat has already told you how he feels about this idea. You also already know you can't have another cat. I know...kittens are cute as bugs, and you just want to play with them. But your other cat was there first and deserves to have a home he feels comfortable in.

well all cats need some time to ajust to each other, my cat hate my puppy and now she is so used to it and they sleep with each other and my dog is a english 120 pound mastiff and still growing so if she can get used to that then i am sure that your cat can get alone with another one.
best of wishes!
