"We are no longer a theocracy and therefore witches and heretics won't be burned or hanged. In some ways this is a good thing."
In some ways? That implies that in "some ways" it's a bad thing -- as if their lives would be easier if this was a theocracy.
Of course, this isn't all Christians, but it's not limited to Christians either. You find people who think this way in many different religions. They think that their God is the only one, and all others are either imaginary, or evil. And if you believe that someone is worshiping an evil god, then you can justify all kinds of discrimination, oppression, and atrocity. It's a slippery slope toward theocracy and terrorism, this belief that your God is the only right one.
In my opinion, honoring nature and paying homage to your ancestors is a good thing. That happens to be the basis of my religion, I am Pagan. And frankly I'm bored having to tell people I don't worship the devil all the time. How many times does it need to be said? I don't worship the devil. I don't worship Jesus, either.

b/c thoes are false statements pagans do not worship or believe in the devil thats a christian belief do Wiccans and Pagans fly around on broom sticks, shoot lightning from their fingers, combat demons, or sacrifice animals and/or babies? Again, no. Many of these beliefs stem from old superstitions, reinforced by Hollywood. Others confuse Wicca and Paganism with Satanism, vampirism, and other occult belief systems that are totally unrelated. These are all things that Wiccans and Pagans are not..Thats what i REALLY dislike...Sterotypes cant they see that we got damaged enough in the 1600s by being hanged burned and drowned by ignorant people that think we are the devils servants we dont even believe in the devil oh well...

How can you be guided by a "devil" that doesn't exist. The devil is a Christian invention, originally (physically) fashioned after our Cernunnos, God of the Hunt. Paganism was around loooooooong before Christianity. Remember: "Gods of the old become devils of the new." It served to help them convert Pagan followers to their newer religion. Or, so they thought. When that didn't work, they simply burned, hung, tortured and drowned Pagans. That sucks!
Dreamdre, I really wish you'd stop pushing your idea of so-called "sin" down other people's throats. You are so blind, you don't see the point here.
Quoted from Labgrrrl: "I'm sorry, I'm just so stunned by the idea that the ONLY REASON Christians aren't going around executing people is because the government doesn't sponsor it that I'm speechless."
A self-proclaimed CHRISTIAN is RIGHT THIS MOMENT ordering thousands of deaths, so don't be so speechless (we need to speak up). The government, namely George W. ABSOLUTELY IS allowing, no ORDERING murder to this day. So yeah, the government, led by a "Christian" is soliciting murder; imagine that.

It's been my experience most Christians are Hippocrates for the simple fact they do not follow the teaching of their Christ (Jesus) whom in his great wisdom stated as his first and for most best teaching was to love thy neighbor as thy brother. In this he never once said, stated or hinted that this neighbor be of the same religious beliefs as you. For he taught tolerance of others and their beliefs and is why he was distrusted by all the religious leaders and the Roman Governors of the time. Christians will always believe anyone that follows a path other than the accepted major religions is of the Devil, it's a belief that is instilled in them from childhood and is one that will take newer open minded generations to corrected this archaic way of thinking

Christianity, along with many other organized religions seem to have a lot of contradictions in them.
If you are not supposed to worship a false idol...only god, then why do people worship jesus. And if jesus is Gods son, does it not say we all are gods children? would he not be a false idol...just another kid?
I don't follow christianity and this is the one major reason, they can not explain half of what they preach, OR their answers just lead in one big confusing circle....lol.

You know your god is man made when he hates the same thing you do. The only reason witches and such are dubbed evil is because they were adversaries to the early church. Whats the easiest way to get people to leave their pagan ways.. say its evil. Since the new majority was duped into thinking such things were evil, they started to persecute the old. All churches say the same things "We are the only ones that are right, everyone else is going to hell. If you don't believe what we do then your wrong and evil"

I'm sorry for your lack of education.
I'm sorry for your ignorance.
I'm sorry for your bigotry.
Witches and Pagans do not worship Satan. Satan is a CHRISTIAN god, not a Pagan one. We don't deal with your gods.
I'm a Pagan. I'm a witch. I'm a minister.
If you want to call people evil, why not call those evil who preach hatred and intolerance?
Why not call evil those who advocate violence to those who beleive different than they do?
Why not call evil those who teach others how to hate?
Would you like to see evil? How about the wonderful Christian preacher who I heard tell young women that if they were raped and lived, then they committed sin because they did not fight until death?
What about the lovely Westoboro Baptist Chruch and their sick knuckle-dragging neanderthal right-wing "god hates fags" web site?
You have no idea what real evil is, because it lives around you in your bigotry and sickness.
Open your eyes and look in yourself. The hatred and intolerance you spout is the true stuff of evil.

I have even been told that honouring the ancestors (a huge part of my practise) is of the devil, because we should honour no one but the middle eastern god. Sad really, but there it is, I shall continue to do it anyway, and revere nature as I always have!

I don't know what passage" thread you got that from, but it sounds stupid. Your terms are not defined and your question is lacking. Honoring your ancestors is good. They did this in the Bible. Praying to them is stupid. They are dead...don't expect results because they are no longer in the physical world.
Who said that everything evil is guided by the devil? That statement would be false to. If you read Genisis and the story of Noah, you will find that God destroyed the world by flood because every thought of mankind was evil. It doesn't say because Satan put evil thoughts in their heads. Man has fallen into sin nature. We are wicked with or without Satan. He just wants to make sure it stays that way.
Honoring nature is fine. Thinking nature is some kind of spiritual element is stupid. God created "nature". If you painted a picture and people admired it, you would be happy. If they honored you for your picture great...if they threw you into the streets and started worshipping your painting...you would be angry. Is it so hard to understand?
