If you have the standard size package of chocolate chips, it is 12 ounces.
Ok so I actually just went to the kitchen and got a bag of chocolate chips...opened them. and poured half the bag into a measuring cup. It measured at 3/4 c slightly heaping.
remember unless you've melted the chocolate. there will be gaps between the chips for air.

Chocolate chips are measured by weight as in 16 ounces equals one pound. Glasses and other things used to hold liquids are measured by fluid ounces as in 8 fl. ounces equals one cup. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME THING. I agree with the previous posters that suggest estimating half of a 12 ounce bag by eye.

Eyeball the 12 oz. bag and split it right down the middle.
With things like choc. chips, super-precise measurements are uncalled-for.

I would say that as many chocolate chips that you can fit in one very full handful, that would be close. Besides, you can never have too many chocolate chips in whatever it is that you are making :)
