I'm agnostic too, I'm not sure why people would go nuts but most Christians in America get upset when someone says they're not a Christian. It's true. Once when someone asked me if I was a Christian, I said no, I'm agnostic but I used to be a Christian. I might as well have said I was a serial killer from the look on their face. Sigh....

He attends his mothers Christian church sometimes. He is from my hometown. He follows all of the Hollywood trends though, so he has probably researched Buddhism a little bit. And because he was in the movie 'Seven Years in Tibet'.
