My sister is a drug addict (prescription pills, some hers, some bought). This is causing a lot of pain to those who love her. She is in denial that she has a problem & in denial that she's hurting anyone, causing it to be more difficult for us. I would like to give her a list of Bible versus, that may help inspire her or maybe open her eyes. All true answers are much appreciated. Thank you!

Before you offer her passages, does she have any true respect for them should be asked. If she does not, how would you expect any of them to mean anything to her? All she will do is say the common false accusation: "You're judging me!...You think you're perfect!....You obviously don't care or you wouldn't be trying to condemn me!" Etc. Etc.

Do YOU have true respect for it? Do you live by its message? Do you just play religion with it?

Be warned she may not respect you for your help and the scripture are heavy on that type of warning to YOU...WHY? Cause HE says!
Mat 7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
Pro 9:6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.
Pro 9:7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked [man getteth] himself a blot.
Pro 9:8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
Pro 23:9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
Pro 26:11 As a dog returneth to his vomit, [so] a fool returneth to his folly.

Nevertheless, here is one you may share with her:
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20 Idolatry,

witchcraft,

hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of Yahweh.

The word for "witchcraft" is the Greek word Pharmakeia, it is where we get our word PHARMACY. It is translated as Witchcraft and Sorcery in KJV english. It is defined as: 1) the use or the administering of drugs2) poisoning3) sorcery, magical arts, often found in connection with idolatry and fostered by it4) metaphorically the deceptions and seductions of idolatry - by Thayers Lexicon

You can research that aspect further to find other references.
You many ALSO look into passage dealing with DRUNKARDS, as the whole point behind it is that the acohol causes you to lose control of your faculty, whether that be a little or a lot. Also passages which deal with controling your thoughts...as that is impossible to do properly when under the influence of acohol or drugs.

If your sister is not saved from her sins then what she really needs is to repent of her whole sinful life and ask Jesus to forgive her and save her. The drug problem can be just a small part of what is keeping her from following Jesus. If there is repentance then there can be healing from sin. the apostle Paul talked about not letting anything be a master over him. We must always have self control and not give it up. We are to be sober minded to avoid the pitfalls of the devil. Prayer is the best thing you can do for your sister. ask other faithful believers to pray for your sister to be saved and set free as the case may be.

You can point out that when Jesus was being crucified he was offered drugs, to relive the pain some, but refused them. "Gull" is used in most Bibles for the drug. But in Matthew 27:34 of the CEV Bible "drugs" is used. And in Mark 15:23 in the Living Bible "drugs" is used.

Being a recovering addict--first and far most I have to tell you that she is no going to change until she hits her bottom. Its best that you and those who care about her do the praying right now for her. But the pray that we as recovering addicts use the most is the Serenity Pray. When she prays tell her to ask God to take the taste and the desire away from her and if she really wants to stop, God will answer all of the prayers that are sent up.................My prayers are with you.

do no longer %. out some verses that don't tell the full tale. think of approximately it. you could no longer clarify each element of each theory each and every time the assumption is reported. you need to examine *each and all of the places the assumption happens, and prepare what it says. The scripture is amazingly clean that Jesus claimed to be God, and that his disciples the two believed it and taught it to others. examine the full council of God. examine each and all of the Gospels. do no longer use the recent international Translation, which replaced into intentionally translated to imprecise or deny the undeniable coaching of the unique language. advantages. /Orthodox

James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Anything that has to do with AA usually has good verses in it. They have several books like day by day, a daily read, and living sober. Just a thought. God bless.

This is my husband's alias(jckfpdd), but I felt called to this sight and saw your plight, so I'll try to help. First I am a recovering drug addict and I understand a little of both sides, because I've had family in this situation too. To abuse drugs first requires stress/ pain, that is not being delt with, so to find the source of her pain would be helpful.
It is rare that showing someone a bible verse in the midst of their sin would bring them out of that sin. I say that not to discourage, but to be understanding. No one wants to look in the mirror and see what kind of monster they've become because of their falling into sin. I stole, lying, being hateful, and numerous other things because of my coke habit. If I had truly understood the horrors of the consequnces of my actions, I would've stopped a long time ago.

As to the bible verses- "Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?" (1 Corinthians 6:19)

"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Clense your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up." (James 4: 7,8,10)

"I will love You,O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My sheild and my stronghold. I will call upon the Lord, WHO IS WORTHY TO BE PRAISED; so shall I be saved from my enemies. The pangs of death surround me, and the floods of ungodliness made me afraid. The sorrows of Shoel surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry came before Him, even to His ears." (Psalm 18: 1-6)
Let her know that God hears her, and loves her, and will forgive a repentant heart, no matter what she has done.

"O My God, I trust in You; Let me not be ashamed; Let my enemies not triumph over me. Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause." (Psalm 25: 2-3)

If you know this for a fact, you could contact the authorities. She'll need to straighten out physically before she can do much else.
