This used to be funny, but then I saw how much it hurt my dog and now I want it to stop.
My cat is always biting my dog. Both of my pets love spots in our house that are near windows and let a nice patch of sunlight on to the carpet. My dog, Missy, will lay down all nice and cozy in a sunny spot in my bedroom or the living room or something, and the cat will see her and get angry he doesn't have a sun spot. He walks over to the sun spot, trying to look sort in intimidating (I think) and stand next to the dog. The dog is partially deaf and never hears him. Then, the cat gives her a really hard bite on the ear. She'll yelp and get up. I hate it because she looks so sad.
And, sometimes the cat just bites the dog for fun, but the dog hates it. I hate seeing her all sad like that, but yelling at Leo while or directly after he does it doesn't work. He just does it when I'm not looking.
How can I make Leo stop biting her?

Water bottle spray every time he bites.

Unfortunately since you've let him do it for an extended peroid of time, he won't understand why all of a sudden he can't do it any more. He may never stop, you can try to discourage the behavior with the water.

You can also try keeping your cat isolated from the room your dog is in, but that's not a long-term solution that end the behavior.

you can try putting some citronella oil on the dogs ears... just a bit. cats don't like that odor.

I agree, this is not at all acceptable. If that does not work, when you see the cat do that, take the cat and iso the cat somewhere. Since the dog is deaf, you can also use pennies in a can and shake the can to make a loud noise. Cats are decidedly bothered by sudden loud noises.

I see a lot of answers and most of them are very good. The water bottle thing really does work......I've used it for several years. One thing is for sure though, when the dog gets tired of the cat biting her, she will let the cat know.

Get a squirt gun and squirt the cat with water when you see him biting your dog. Cats hate water, and the behavior will stop. I think the answer above is good as well -- a "kitty time out" will probably work.
