They allow negativity, false assumptions or attachment to delusions to cloud their judgement and can't accurately choose an action that is appropriate to circumstance. For example, all you have to do is read some the answers you got here. Some people are so conditioned and enslaved by bitter, angry judgementalism, that they make the (completely unjustified) assumption that you are claiming to be perfect, and so they send you vicious, ugly remarks in response. When you made no such claim, even by implication. I'd be willing to bet that they are also the same people who consider themselves perfect, but questions like yours remind them that they're not, that destroys their delusional self-image and so they shoot at the messenger. A perfect example of what you asked for.

Most mistakes happen because people are taking a short term view of things. You have to look at the long term. In the short term you can walk into a store and steal whatever you want. But in the long term you will be arrested if you do that, so you are much better to look at your own long term best advantage and pay for what you need.

You'll find that wickedness is a process that takes time. It begins with what I call the "flash." That little moment where an evil thought enters your head, most christians refer to this as temptation. Having the flash is no sin, dwelling on it is. When you dwell upon it it become a thought. Frolo ("Hunchback of Notre Dame") was not a wicked man until he allowed himself to dwell upon the lust that flashed through his head for Esmerellda. After that he allowed the thought to comsume him until it became an action. That is the next step and where we outwardly sin. Repentance becomes more and more difficult as we progress done this chain. If we continue to perform the action is become a habit. Those people that talk about not being able to control themselves, they were so mad or whatever their excuse is, have gotten themselves into the habit of losing control. The final step, if we allow our habits to continue unchecked, is trait, such that it becomes apart of the person's identity. An alcoholic is an example, there are people that exist that are so addicted to alcohol that if you set a drink in front of them and tell them not to drink on pain of death, they would eventually drink. It is part of who they are to get drunk, it's why those people who smoke themselves nearly to death and have to get a hole cut in their throat so they can breathe continue to smoke. At this stage it is near impossible to quit whatever the problem is, not completely impossible, but close.
So that's my exposition of what goes through people's heads.

I imagine all sorts of things. When I see something I get a mixture of feelings; compassion and gratitude. Compassion because who knows what that person has been through, past or present. Gratitude because 'but for the grace of God there goes I"

when i do something wrong, it's usually because the benefits seem to outweigh the risks, or it's an expedient way to get out of an uncomfortable situation, or at that particular moment i just don't care. some people like to stir the pot, too, to see people's reaction or to create chaos.

I bet a lot of people wonder what goes through YOUR head when you do something wrong, too. Or are you perfect?

We all like to think we would never do the things others do,,,but we can sometimes convince ourselves that we do something bad out of love for someone else,,,or we deny to ourselves that what we are doing is wrong. Excuses,,the road to Hell is paved with excuses....

Obviously nothing went through their head. People do things with out thinking how it may affect some one else or they simply just don't care. And I think that's sad.

Not everyone is aware that they are doing something wrong, not until it is done. Hindsight is 20/20. I'm sure others have seen you do something wrong, and you were not aware of the fact that you did it.
