I've found a local trade school that is short (6 months 8AM-12) for under $11,000. The guy who founded it is a local legend. He's taught at two other schools in the area and been in the trade for well over 30 years. Most of the local techs were either trained by him or know of his reputation.

He wanted to open a school that was cheaper/shorter than the two others in the area, without the padding they put into to qualify for government grants.

I don't think his school qualifies for government grants, which I would qualify for, but on the other hand the other schools are a year to two long. His school still gets you EPA refrigerant certified along with the unofficial industry standard certification (no real required certification exists). I trust his reputation after verifying it with other techs.

What I'd like to do is defer payment until after graduating. Any links to try? I believe they offer FannieMae. Also would like to take out $4000 more as a buffer to pay bills. Ideas?

I do have low interest credit cards (less than 9% fixed) that I could finance the school by, but I'd much rather use a defered payment direct student loan so I don't have to worry about making the payments until after I graduate. Reason being that I'm self employeed and would need to cut down my work load while I go to school. I'm also carrying about $19,000 in credit card debt as it is on my two cards, one at 8.5% fixed and the other at about 5% fixed. I'm worried if I throw the $11,000 for the school onto those, combined with my work hours being cut roughly in half, that I wouldn't be able to meet my bills. Currently live rent free so that isn't a problem. I'd like to take out say around $15,000 as a buffer on the deffered student loan so I know that I could meet my bills no matter what happens while in school. Just as a precaution, I'd pay the uneeded money back onto the loan as soon as I got out. Other links to loans and ideas welcome. Any that qualify for a short trade school?

Have you tried your local bank for a student loan? Most of them have a student loan program.
