the thing people gotta realize is that pbf don't have 1 punch knock out power, but he's consistant and accurate and that's just as good and considering that no one has tested hatton chin i think floyd's speed and accuracy will play and important role in the bout. ask any fighter and he'll tell you that it wouldn't be fun getting hit at will with decent power and especially if you can't hit you opponent.

I know thay you are a lover of Mayweather from previous answers so you will probably not like what i will have to say on the subject but then again its only my opinion, and that is that Mayweather doesnt have the power to keep someone like Cotto honest throughout the duration of a 12 round fight at some point Cotto will catch up with him, i think if Floyd had real punching power then Cotto would be wary about just wading forward and chasing him (because of the worries about his chin) but seeing as Floyd doesnt possess this one punch knockout power Cotto will be all over him like a rash.

of course he does, hes the most accurate puncher in modern day history, his technique and speed are rediculously flawless. If he can keep the much naturally bigger Hoya off of him he can do the same to Cotto. In the beginning he may be able to stay on him, but eventually the punches will catch up to him as it does to everyone Mayweather fights. Just because hes not a one punch KO type fighter does not mean it doesnt hurt or bother fighters when he lands. Every fighter who has stood in the ring with Mayweather has tried the same tactic. Mayweather is so used to seeing pressure fighters go after him that he can basically go on cruise control now against that style. What Mayweather should be concerned with is the fact that Cotto basically outboxed Shane which was unthought of. His speed and strength at this weight have seemed to finally balance out and it basically makes Cotto the most dangerous fighter in the weight class besides Mayweather. Cotto has now shown that he doesnt have to be aggressive for an entire fight. If he chooses to, he can box some rounds, and i dont think there is to many fighters in the weight class that are gonna take that left hook the way mosley did.

Does he have enough power to be competitive at welterweight? Yes. But I think we all know that if Mayweather Jr. were to beat Cotto it would be because of his superior hand speed and boxing. What if Cotto keeps coming? That makes no difference for Mayweather Jr. since he never gets tired or shaken from his gameplan. Although I think pretty boy will go down as the GOAT as his respective weight I don't think he wants a piece of Cotto. At 140lbs Ricky Hatton on the other hand is a perfect matchup. I expect him to dominate Hatton.

I don't think Mayweather has more punching power at 147 but he has the hand speed. The Joe Calzaghe/Mikkel Kessler fight proved one thing, hand speed always beats punching power. Cotto has enough pop in his right hand to give him a punchers chance against Mayweather but I think that Floyd would just be too fast for the much slower Cotto. Floyd would cut him up on his way to landslide win on the score cards.

cotto is a better boxer than people think, if you watched his fight with mosely you probably noticed he doesnt just hit hard and hit often he can move around and box a little too. However Cotto does not have a great chin, so Mayweather doesnt necessarily need stunning power to win. Cotto has good heart as we saw in June, if this fight happens I think Cotto will take it in the 9th round or so

This is not even a fair question. This is asking which will knock you out faster, a bullwhip or a brick? Ones blunt, ones whipping.
First, Mayweather, contrary to popular opinion, is MUCH stronger than Cotto. Everyone likes to point that Mayweather didnt engage with DLH, well DLH was a stronger fighter. DLH went eleven rounds with Bernard Hopkins, who was two weight divisions above him.
The same questions were asked when Mayweather fought Gatti..."Will Mayweather be able to stand up to the constant pressure fighting of Gatti? Ward hits harder than Mayweather...they went twelve".
Look, I respect Cotto and all, the same way I respect Hatton. But neither of them have shown their knockout power since 140. Had Cotto easily knocked Shane...first or second round...THEN I wouldnt believe that Mayweather could go with him.
Mayweather went up to 154 and barely got touched...and schooled...of all people, DeLaHoya. In the welts and juniors...if he can go to junior middleweight and knock people around..he can easily knock welters around.

Mayweather's punches will not keep Cotto from chasing him relentlessly. Floyd will pretty much "one-two" off of counters and disappearing the whole fight. It'll be no problem for Mayweather to do this for all 12 rounds, so it doesn't matter if Cotto keeps coming forward or not.

man a tough one there...i love cotto and i really dont like Mayweather too much because he has all the talent but refuses to fight unless his opponent is a scrub....but i realize Mayweather is so talented that he can fight defensive and still make someone look silly....i think cotto has a good chance to win but if Mayweather boxes and doesnt take any chances Mayweather would win but would go to the cards and who really wants to see that....i dont think Mayweather hits hard enough to really hurt him with any one punch but with the amount of countering Mayweather will do he will certainly wear out Cotto ...but if cotto hits mayweather like he did mosley could be an early night...all if mayweather decides to fight though

Im pretty sure that Mayweathers power wont keep Cotto from chasing him. But his speed will! Mayweather is a fighter that doesn't depend on his power but rather on his speed. And with Mayweather's speed, Cotto will stop coming sooner than later.

Cotto will never stop coming becuase floyd doesn't have stopping power!! It doesn't matter flyod would escape all day. Floyd is on record a number of times saying he has never been tired in a fight. Cotto will have to corner floyd and slug it out hoping he can put floyd down before he accumulates too much damage!
