Algae came first. Then a few modifications to allow them to survive the seashore's tidal zones. Adapting to land allowed the plants to rapidly diverge in form. One way to compete was to get taller and shade out the competition. This came well before modifying reproduction away from spores. Seeds came well after evergreen trees had evolved pollen. Therefore allergies came before seeds.

very like the question which came first, the chicken or the egg? I would probably say that the tree came first. Tree's produce seeds, chickens produce eggs, everyones happy.
