I'm not sure I understand your question completely. Are you asking for proof that the earliest Christians (i.e. late first century/ early second century) did not believe Jesus was God?

I'm sorry to tell you this, but the surviving writings we have from them prove that Jesus was clearly worshipped as God, even back then.

For example, read this letter written by Ignatius to Polycarp (both men had studied Christianity under the tutelege of the Apostle John) written sometime between 105 AD and 115 AD: http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/text/ignatius-polycarp-longer.html

At Chapter III, Ignatius writes:

"Whilst thou art here, be a conqueror; for here is the course, and there are the crowns. Look for Christ, the Son of God; who was before time, yet appeared in time; who was invisible by nature, yet visible in the flesh; who was impalpable, and could not be touched, as being without a body, but for our sakes became such, might be touched and handled in the body; who was impassible as God, but became passible for our sakes as man; and who in every kind of way suffered for our sakes."

He also writes at Chapter VIII "I pray for your happiness for ever in our God, Jesus Christ ..."

Both statements clearly confirm that Jesus was worshipped as God by the very earliest Christians.

For Christians Jesus is God who became a man just like the rest of us. Mankind had fallen away, or been separated from God, so Jesus came to end that separation and to provide a way for us to have a personal relationship, a friendship with God. One of the things that Jesus taught was that there is no way greater to show your love for someone than to give your love so that that person could live. He also taught that humility, not arrogance, was a blessed thing. And, finally, he came here and lived in such a way that choosing to follow him would not be because of access to power, but instead because we wanted to love God and have a relationshnip with him. Jesus took all of our sins upon himself and allowed himself to be sacrificed in order to remove those sins from us. God has forgiven us and, as the bible says, made our sins "as far as the east is from the west".
The important thing about being a Christian, and what Jesus did for us, is that we can enter into a loving relationship with God. We are no longer separated from him.

Hello, Sarah:

Your professor is partially right, but not completely.

In the Bible we have El, the sovereign God, but He has parts, Elohim, which is the plural part of God.

In the beginning, "El" created the heavens and the earth. But we find the Lord God walking in the Garden of Eden. You can read it yourself in the first few chapters of Genesis.

When you get married, the Bible considers you and your husband "one flesh" although you are separate entities. If someone dishonors the wife, they also dishonor the husband, because they are ONE, even seperate entities.

So, Christians are monotheistic when it comes to God, but they also recognize that GOD can also be plural.

Read Daniel 12:1 where it speaks of Michael the Prince. Michael means "He who is like God", and 'Prince' means your Father is KING. God is a creator, and did not give birth to His son because His Son is an integral part of Elohim.

You can understand His plan to save this fallen planet when you unlock the only part of the Holy Scriptures that say you can't understand them until the end of the days. See http://abiblecode.tripod.com

Peace, Ben

God IS Jesus, and vice versa. Jesus/God came down to earth to SAVE us from hell. He LOVES us. ANd you can never live up to God, its impossible! He knows it so He makes an alternate way to get to heaven, cuz he knows we cant be perfect

if you understand something of compassion, you may be able to understand why Jesus came just to be slaughtered. If that doesn't help, perhaps the prophecy in Isaiah may help.

thanks

Christ is God. Islam is false. That is the Christian doctrine.
