Here is the deal:
If you're into PS2 games - NTSC 60GB is the best (better than PAL 60GB due to hardware support), BUT you'll have to get NTSC U/C PS2 games. NTSC 80GB has the same backwards compatibility with PS2 as PAL 60GB. 40GB doesn't support PS2 games at all.
If you're not interested in PS2 games - get 40GB PAL (it doesn't support PS2 games at all).
Remember - PS3 games are region free, but movies and PS1/2 games - aren't.
If you'll get US PS3 - you'll need a 220V->110V 50Hz->60Hz 500W good, bulky heavyweight power converter.

um if u really love playing ps2 and psone game sgo for the 60gb ..the 80gb plays most of the games but not all of them but it does have extra memory and comes wit a game called motorstorm and there both 499 wich is 500 ..and well 40gb is not cool cause it dosent play ps2 or 1 games at all...it dosent have the flash card slots low memory and ive seen like 4 or 5% of ppl have problems wit it..datas why its 40gb and its not shinny so i say go for 80gb but if u do care and plan on playing ur ps2 games go for 60gb

Yes, the games are region free. The only thing you cant do is watch movies from DVD or Blu-Ray.
