I personally love Elmo, and if your child loves Elmo and loves that book, then you should let him dress as him. First graders are still fairly young and innocent. I don't think he will get made fun of yet. If he was in third or fourth grade, yes. Just make sure it is something your child wants to wear, and you are not just dressing him up in it because its convenient. If he is proud of his costume, he should be fine.

I don't think he is too old. If he likes elmo, he should be able to wear the costume. Kids are pressured to grow up too fast these days, and you should be lucky he's not interested in MTV, which is obviously inappropriate for his age. Heck, I'm in highschool and I still love elmo! In preschool, my sister told me teletubbies was for babies, and that I was uncool for liking it. I remember running up the stairs in tears because I didn't want to be a baby, but honestly I think teletubbies is fine for a four year old! So if your son wants to be elmo for the parade, I would say that you should let him.

My kid also is in the first grade and she still loves elmo just let them decide when they don't like to be or watch it. Let them be kids as long as they want. I don't care what other people say . Does your husband watch elmo with your son if so is he to old to watch elmo?

Since your son is the one who would have to wear the costume, and be comfortable with it, you should ask him his opinion. Don't ask in a way that it would put ideas in his head that might not already be there. Just ask it as simply as you can and take his first answer.

I think it just really depends on the child. My daughter in 2nd grade wouldn't be caught dead with elmo or any sesame street characters even on her juice box, while my kindergardener wouldn't care one way or the other.

Good luck figuring it all out.

Your son is only a first grader is OK to like Elmo. My son is Ten in few days and he asked for a buildabear.com puppy my husband said the same thing...He is too old for that... don't buy it ....that is a waste of money...well, i bought it and it was here three days later ... you should see his face of happiness. And that is what matters my child's smile. Just because my husband don't like something that don't mean I won't do it. I can handle my husband, but I can't live with my son's sad face. I can't break his heart. Because my husband will forget, but son won't.

yes i agree with hubby. He can be intersted in Elmo all he likes at home but for a peer activity I'd steer him to a more age appropriate choice. Batman, Spiderman Pokemon. Sponge Bob

Since when has a SIX year old been thought too old for Elmo? What ARE they mature enough for? Tell Dad to take a chill pill...Jr will look GREAT in his Elmo outfit...he is NOT "too old" for it...unless your child in a child prodigy who acts years beyond his calendar age....My nephew, carried around a "Tommy Pickles" doll until he was about 10 years old....
