In the garden of eden, Adam and Eve didn't eat meat. This was paradise so shouldn't we try and live like this?

I know it says in the bible that it's ok to eat meat but this was said at times of famine and we are certainly not in times of famine anymore. Vegetarians have been proved to be healthier and live longer and are even offered discounts by health and life insurance companies because of this.

I just find it hard to believe that an 'all-loving' God would want us to kill God's fellow creatures. And please think beyond quotes with your answers... think, if we can live healthier without meat, then why would god want us to kill. Don't just say that he wants us to... why would he want us to?

I'm not a christian by the way... it's funny how so many of you assume that if I've read the bible I'm a Christian... I read a lot of fiction.

I just think its a(nother) contradiction to preach of love and peace and then eat meat from factory farms which are basically the Auchwitz for animals. I don't think God would be pleased with people causing so much pain and misery.

This is a confusing question. However, if you read into the book of Daniel and John, the Bible clearly states that you should eat meat. In Daniel, he refuses the vegetarian diet of the babylonians and after a certain amount of time, is shown to be in better shape. In the book of John, GOD tells John that we can eat any meat that we desire. Also, the reason that Adam and Eve did not eat meat is that, before they sinned and were cast out of the garden, nothing could have died, so where would they get their meat?? The thing about nothing dying does not apply to plants or insects because GOD told Noah that only to bring on the ark animals that were alive, THAT HAD THE BREATH OF LIFE. Truly, insects don't breath, they absorb oxygen throught their skin. Plants do the same and are classified scientifically as a SELF-REPLICATING FOOD SOURCE.

I already know you're not a Christian, but for Christian meat-eaters, this is why we believe it's ok:

New Testament
Acts 10:10-13 (King James Version)

"10...And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

11...And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending upon him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

12...Wherein were all manner of four footed beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

13...And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat."

I've read many times in the Health News that what causes health problems is not exactly the food we eat, but the "amounts" of food that we eat. Healthy eating is in the portions, not on what we eat.

Besides, no offense, but vegetarians are like religious fanatics, only see their side, they are the only ones right and make use of comparisons that make no sense. And, religious fanatics, are not able to see that "we all" have the absolute right to our opinion, either right or wrong.

I think everything you said is valid but I don't feel obligated give up meat. Also because I'm not Jewish, Hindu or Muslim I feel that God hasn't ask me personally to give up beef, pork and / or alcohol.

It's funny because these days I refrain from drinking and
eat far less meat than I use to. Maybe I like the idea that I can go back to my old ways anytime I choose. I still can't resist Oktoberfest with a bratwurst and a liter stein of really good beer.

Making these kind of lifestyle changes for moral or spiritual reasons is highly commendable but I'm not too sure how many other people would just do it without being ready to make that change first. If anything my hat is off to you.

God, might want us to utilize a protein source, that is not as wasteful. People are going hungry, because grain prices are going up, because more people in the world are consuming meat. If we could develop better non-meat protein sources, it would problably be better for this world. I am not opposed to genetic egineering, in that direction if done carefully. I don't think God is against man being inovative. Also, maybe we could use soybeans as fruel, with the waste material being the valuable protein, that some of us require at a higher level than others.

All I can say is ask them.

People who make the argument that we are designed to eat meat are dead wrong. Our digestive systems are extremely long -- this is why red meat ferments and rots in the colon before passing through the body, many times causing cancer in people. Cheetahs and other cats who are truly designed to eat meat have very short digestive systems.

Vegan for five years and have a beautiful "Vegan" tattoo. But, to each their own.

I do, however, find it difficult to believe that the Gods would want their beautiful creatures murdered. How do you know that the animals don't worship deity?

Can you people give God a break already... Man, I wonder if he ever imagined how convoluted and difficult we would make everything. Probably.

I don't like meat, because I hate to think of an animal dieing so I can eat, when there are other things to eat.

The animals that people eat (for the most part) multiply VERY quickly - there are no shortage of them. I can't imagine that they aren't intended to be eaten. If you don't want to eat meat, then don't. But don't put it on God.

The closest I can come to God telling us what to eat is not in the Bible, but instead, provided to us by interpretations of man. The Old Testament has directions to the Israelites about eating the meat from animals with hooves, etc. but not to the rest of the world at that time. I don't think that God cares whether we do or don't eat meat. He has bigger concerns with his children and how we act, not what we eat!

In order for us to live, something has to die. If that is an animal or a defenseless plant, it has to die. It is that same law that leads us to understand Christ sacrifice on the Cross. Life is cursed, terminal and sexuality transmitted. If you wish to be a Vegan then by all means GOD bless you. If you wish to dictate to believers how they should conduct their eating habits then I directly oppose you and will continue to do so until such a time as my Brothers and Sisters in Christ Jesus are free to worship GOD without new rules and regulations that have nothing to do with following Christ.

I believe this too. I also believe in intent. If you are starving and all you have is a fish, that is far different than having a buffet in front of you full of fruits and veggies and stilll going for the meat. And to think how all these animals are harvested! Doesn't God know the smallest sparrow? How he must cry and cry when he hears his cows and pigs being slaughtered and tortured just to have a cheesburger! How sick!

yes, God wants us to eat meat. In Old Testament times, the only meat the Israelites were not allowed to eat was anything with split hooves or that chew cud (pigs, cows, rabbits, etc), or that didn't have scales or fins (for the ocean). Later, in the New Testament, that was changed. See Acts 10:9-16.

Hope I helped!
