Absolutely - the people who think our economy "needs" this fresh influx of huge numbers every year just don't have good math skills.
There is no way we can continue to allow the huge legal immigration numbers we currently have without a collapse of our country. If we do not slow it down we will be at 600+ million within a few decades. Not too many people want to go live in India or China but we will soon be like them if we continue on this path.
As our population gets larger the increases will only get faster and faster. So if you love you children and grandchildren and want them to have a decent life you NEED to think about what the US will be like in 30-60 years.

No. The harder it is to legally immigrate, the more illegal immigration you will have. Forbidding a legitimate activity has never solved any problems. On the other hand, the best way to stop illegal immigration is to create a fair and orderly channel for legal immigration, combined with a 'better handle' on illegal immigration.

In my opinion it might not be a bad idea to stop and revamp our legal immigration procedures to fix some of the admitted problems - this does not have to take a long time and in turn may make the process less confusing and more streamlined in the end, and as Slew mentioned we could also work on the issue's with visa abuse while we are at it.
We also need a very clear ENTRANCE AND EXIT procedure for all visa holders to prevent overstays.

No. Like it or not, we now exist in global economy. Legal immigrants tend to be very skilled and talented. As such, as much as legal immigration needs to be cleaned up, we would lose too much productivity by doing as you suggest.
Besides, the initial focus should be on fixing ILLEGAL immigration.

you have a quite long checklist for 2007. i might doubt that plenty will replace in 2007. it is going to take the yankee people directing their elected officers to handle this problem. until eventually then , i'm uncertain something will replace. If all we did replaced into do away with the roles that illegals get by using going after the companies that offer them, quite plenty something will safeguard itself. No jobs, no illegals.

No. Stopping legal immigration will not have any effect on illegal immigration.
These people are criminals who are coming into this country by hook or crook. Stopping legal immigration will have no impact on their criminal activity.

I think we should, but to examine abuse in the H1B visa. We have alot of people here that shouldn't and corporation are intentionally floodinf the market with foreign workers to lower our salary. I also see alot of under qualified immigrants working here. Over half my coworkers are immigrants and they tell me horror stories on how some of there friends cheat to pass the board exam. Theis type of fraud is organized and is done with the aid of their respective country.

I don't think it's at all fair to punish legal and potential legal immigrants. We need to put the "hurt" where it belongs, on illegal immigrants and their interests.

Absolutely not. Legal immigrants come from all over the world, not just from Mexico. They provide valuable skills and services to this country.

I do think they should for a short while. Paperwork is so backlogged even for legal entry at this point that many are taking to the illegal route thus multiplying the problem.
