I'm going into the dental field, in which I know oral piercings are looked down upon.. but I've always wanted it done, but just curious to see what a tongue piercing looks like without the jewelry.. so I can take it out for work and go unnoticed. Or is it just as noticable? Any pictures?

it's really not very noticeable. i had mine pierced for 6 years (i had two of them ) and 3 years later there is just a small indention there. nobody would really notice it, tho my sister did... she's in dental hygiene school. BUT something to think about... the reason i took mine out was because one of the balls was resting on my bottom front teeth and was pushing my gums down. my dentist told me that if it continued to rest there and push my gums down i would lose my two front teeth. NOT very attractive so i took them out. after 3 years my gums have just now almost healed from it and grown back up to where they should be.
good luck!

It will be tiny hole, barely recognizeable, however taking it out may not be a very good idea. Tongues heal really fast, so if u take it out for a few hours, it may close. I had mine out for about 2 hours once and I had to go back to the shop to have them force the barbell through. But on the contrary a few months later I had to have my tonsels out so I had it out for 3 weeks and thought for sure it would be closed but I was able to put the barbel right back in. So If ur going to take it out for say an 8 hour workday, I would wait until youve had it pierced for at least a year.

When mine is out, I have a tiny hole. It isn't noticeable, except when you are looking for it. A dentist giving YOU an exam would probably notice, but in general nobody else would. VERY few people have noticed my tongue stud in, unless, of course I've wanted them to. I've had it for years now, and my mother didn't even notice it until she saw a picture of me with my mouth wide open laughing, four years later. So, no, I don't think anyone will notice the tiny hole as long as you don't go around with your tongue sticking out.

Sorry I don't have any pics, But I did have my tongue pierced and decided to take it out. & no it is not really noticable unless some one it really looking for it. You will still have the hole but it is not like its huge. So go ahead and get it done people should not decide what kind of dentist you are by your choice of peircings. It's not like it will lower your IQ or anything.

Once it's healed you can get a clear retainer or barbell, or even flesh colored jewelry.
Tongue piercings are notorious for closing up within hours/minutes, so talk to your piercer.

When you take it out there will be a little hole, most are a standard 14g which you will most definitely not notice in a tongue.

I have one and when i take it out no one can notice that i even had one. i have had mine for a year and a half now and it is great. i mean yeah it is looked down on but its your choice. but u have to remember wait about six months b4 removing it for longer then just changing it bc it will close up in like 20 mins no joke it happened to my dad and he had to get it redone.
Thanks

ugh I took mine out after not even a year and now, like 3 years later, my tounge still has a hole and a little slit like the hole has opened. I also have stupid scar tissure on the bottom of my tounge. It sucks :/

its not noticable at all. unless you have it guaged out or something. i had my tongue peirced i would take it out for work all the time. no one's going to notice, unless they're up close and personal and looking for it

get a retainer..they are flat on the top and you can even notice them.........if you take it out it may heal shut on you! so either get a retainer bar and problem solved
