I have debilitating anxiety, and I was prescribed a new medicine for an unrelated condition. I did research on the pill before I took it, and I read about how it can cause severe allergic reactions. I'm always reluctant to take new medicines or try new foods in fear that I'll develop a reaction to it. To put my mind at ease, if I WAS to develop some awful allergic reaction to this medicine, would Benadryl get rid of it, or would I have to go to the ER or die or something?

I know it sounds stupid that I'm obsessing over the fact that I might have an allergic reaction to a medicine I haven't even taken. Would my doctor give me an epipen when I have no history of an allergic reaction to anything? I saw this video when I was in elementary school about this kid who got stung by a bee and his face got HUGE and puffy. Ever since then I've been afraid that I'd develop a severe allergy like that.

Benadryl will help, but for a severe allergic reaction an epi-pen will save ya from anaphylaxis till you can reach a hospital. Your doctor can prescribe it. My grandpa carried his around for his bee stings, its a life saver.
You are more at risk for a severe allergy when taking a medication you have ALREADY had a reaction to, the next time you take it the reaction can be severe, my instructor went over this with us last week.

Benadryl will help. If you feel your throat closing or something worse then you dial 911. You should never drive yourself to the ER if you are having a severe allergic reaction to anything as you might need immediate attention. You do need to get your anxiety under control though as this is causing you more problems than anything else I can see in your post.

Benadryl should temporarily help breathing by opening up the air passages. During a seveer allergic reaction your histamine levels increase and close up airways and make it difficult to breath. After taking the Benadryl go immediately to emergency room for further treatment.

If you are subject to severe allergic reactions, your throat may close before you can swallow Benadryl. Take the first dose at a medical facility and let them know you are doing it. My doctors have done this for me.

Does Benadryl help you at other times? For me, Benadryl does absolutely nothing. Do you have a lot of allergies to other things? If you don't have a lot of allergies, try not to worry about it, you will probably not have any problem.

Benadryl should help, but know that it does have antihistamine in it so take it at a time you would want to sleep.
