So I work as a cashier & I've had a customer who was a pastor try to refer me to his church but I told him I was Agnostic because there's so many things in the bible I don't understand. I asked him if I was Buddhist, if he would still try to convert me. He proceeded to go on about how some people didn't agree with Christ & tried to start their own religion.
Buddhism is more of a lifestyle than a religion. There is no god in Buddhism, Buddha is more a prophet, NOT A GOD.
I've had a few more customers try to refer me to their church, & the occasional Jehovah's witness knock on my door.

Honestly, of all the religions, why is it that Christians must go about trying to convert others? I was brought up as a Roman Catholic but I eventually came to the conclusion that some things don't make sense (how come the bible doesn't mention dinosaurs!?) or some things are just plain ridiculous (ex: same sex relations are wrong).

Seriously, why are Christians like this!?

+++ Please no Bible quotes.

I don't want direct bible quotes, but feel free to paraphrase them..

& no, Christians aren't always right. If it's a sin to kill, why are there so many battles raged in the name of Christ & God? [The Crusades, which, by the way, the Christians lost. Hahahahahahah]

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

The Bible does not mention rhinos, not turtles, nor many other things like that. Where do you get some hangup because the Bible does not mention many things on the earth. The Bible is a guide for living in God's world. It is not an encyclopedia of the world and it's creatures. The Bible is about people being good moral people and following Him.

The Christian, if he be a Christian, will always want to give an account of why he IS a Christian. We must give an account for the faith we have as we rightly divide the Word according to it's teachings.

hahahaha study your history and you won't be saying the Crusades were about religion. It was about a trade route that had been closed. It was told it was about Christianity, but it was about a free trade route. AS IT IS TODAY, IT WAS ABOUT THE MONEY.

I am a Christian and I have never and hope I never try to convert anyone because if you become MY convert you are hell bound for sure. All I can do is plant the seed or water the seed but God is the one who converts. I try to use the bible to show people what God says because I know HE is always right and my opinion or my thoughts do not mean anything if they are wrong. I have to test my own thoughts against the Word of God because my ideas and feelings come from a fallen sinful nature and will lead me wrong every time. There are things in the bible that I wish were not there because it goes against what my flesh wants to do, but I know that every thing God tells me and warns me about is for my protection because He loves me. You may not believe this or understand it but, every time a TRUE Christian comes to you to speak with you about Christ, that is the Spirit of Christ within that person trying to reach you. Christ is the one who died, and bore the sins, not me. He wants to save you, I can't save you. It is God, who is love calling you not me. You are not rejecting man, you are rejecting God.

First, everyone who claims to be a Christian is not. I can stand in a garage and call myself a car all day but I am not a car.

Secondly, I can only speak for myself when I say I do not believe I am always right, but when it comes to something God says, he is always right. I have no right to question him. If his word is clear about a matter, for example, "do not steal", then my only response can be to do my best to not steal.

There are disputable matters that are not so cut and dried, in which case, I am not sure anyone can say they for sure know the answer. Judging from your question, it seems that a lot of problems some people have with Christianity are simply misunderstandings. There are Christians who are arrogant and may refuse to admit they are wrong when they should, but aren't there atheists and agnostics with the same charcteristics or are all of them perfect people? Hope this helps answer your question.

P.S. When I say we have no right to question God, I don't mean that we will always understand why he does what he does, but then we don't need to always understand everything. That's where faith comes in. A two year old doesn't understand why mom and dad won't let him eat nothing but candy, but it is still in his best interest to do what mom and dad say. He doesn't need to understand the why's and how-comes.

why are Christians like this? Number one is that Christians learn compassion...much like Buddhists:) the compassion compelled us to give. In the case of an unsaved person, it is even more than a compelling desire, it's a need, no different than being witness to an accident and giving aid to an injured person.

Dinosaurs never contemplated their existence. It would be a waste of time to distinguish them from any type of life form.

I understand that you don't want bible quotes, but what if I could point you to REAL prophecy (that came true, not the sun will come out tomorrow stuff). no BS. make your jaw drop kind of stuff. would that be worth reading. Would you be willing to hold it up to the light to find proof....it that's what you need?

Remember, the Catholic church has evolved into something over time and some feel it has gotten away from God. If you want to understand the bible, then go for it. It is there for you to read and it is uncensored...for thousands of years. go find out what the big deal is about?

Answer to 1st question about why Christians must go about trying to convert others, well..you said "Please no Bible quotes" so I can't
2nd question about why things in the Bible don't make sense, well I cannot answer that either again because you won't let me use Bible quotes, on why it makes no sense.
3rd Question : about how come the bible doesn't mention dinosaurs!?) Well yet again, I can tell you were it does, but again I can't because you said "Please no Bible quotes",
So..you have asked questions that you have obviously don't want answers to as you have "Biased" the question and made it impossible to answer.

So My question is this, Why even ask the question, If you made it so that you will not accept any answer, so whats the point of even asking ?

I am not quoting the bible. God said to spread His Good News. His Good News is that Jesus died for your sins and all you have to do is beleive this and you will be saved from condemnation.
The bible does mention dinosaurs but doesn`t call them by that name.
God says that same sex relations are an abomination.
And God is not ridiculous.
Religion is man made. Man thought that going through rituals
would bring God closer to man. That was what satan put into
the hearts and minds of unbelievers. So many religions have
people doing things to go to heaven. Go to confession, do good works, give all your time and money to the church etc.
That is not how it works.
Sure other religions may mention Jesus, but do they also tell you there are many ways to get to heaven? There is only one way and that is to believe what He has done for you.
Because all of your sins have been forgiven. The sin that
sends you to hell is the sin of unbelief.

The answer to why Christians try to convert people is because that was one of the last mandates left to us by Christ, to go all over the world, spread His message and lead others to Christ. I'd give you the scripture, but you've asked for a Biblical answer without the Biblical answer. Here's a tip: Anything we do in God's name, MUST be backed up by scripture to be legitimate. Anyone who does something and says it's in God's name, but doesn't have scripture or is using scripture out of context is lying to themselves and you.

And no, Christians aren't always right. Anyone who thinks they are, isn't being realistic with themselves. Only God can always be right.

Lets leave the Bible quotes out for a second okay.

If you really believed you neighbors house was on fire, would you go tell him?

A Christian really believes that everyone has sinned against a Holy and Just God by telling lies, stealing, committing adultery, by hating others, etc. A christian really believes that this just and loving God will punish those that hate others. They really believe that the God of truth will punish liars. The really think the God who is life and gives life will punish those who take life outside of the parameters He has set. A Christan really believes that a God of justice will not tolerate people taking things from others.

A Christian believes the the ultimate punishment is eternal death in a lake of fire. They believe that the only way to be saved is through the love and mercy of God. The believe that God loved us enough to send His only begotten Son to take our place. They believe if we repent of our sins and trust Jesus Christ that we will receive mercy instead of justice. Based on God pouring His wrath on His Son in our place.

If a Christian really believes that and does not tell you, he or she hates you.

Now I personally do not believe asking people to Church has anything to do with what I just said. That sound more liking filling seats to me, unless they hope you hear the truth while there.

It is their duty --They must preach the gospel to all the world before JESUS can return... So they get to go to heaven once everyone has heard --and not until then...SEEMS SELFISH SELF CONCERNED TYPE TO ME--- They must spread the good news -----------------Is NEWS taken from the word NEW--- Should it not be called spreading the good olds.... They get to spread things any way they want at any time --- But don't you do that ----That's called fornication and you burn in hell for that--- They get to go to heaven for that CAUSE GOD JOINED TOGETHER TO DO THAT ---- See how simple that is to understand ??????????
