This all depends on why you are using it. If you are using it to remove lice, I'd go to the nearest drug store and get a professional product. Vinegar will only stun the nits(live bugs). It will do nothing for the eggs. You must remove ALL the eggs and the bugs. Repeat use after 11 days, and again after 21 days. If you are trying to remove styling products, no it will not hurt the hair. Just be sure to stay out of the sunlight while on the hair and condition the hair thoroughly after.

If you put straight vinegar on and don't rinse it and sit in the sun especially, it can lighten the hair a little. Remember when we were teens and we wanted highlights and used vinegar or lemon juice? It is not good for the hair that way. But if you add a little to the rinse after washing the hair, it cuts all the soap and deposits and makes the hair really clean. By a little I mean maybe a 1/2 cup to a gallon of water, or maybe only a 1/4 cup. Then rinse with plain water.

Vinegar is a dilute acid so will remove the oils from the surface of the hair. If washed off it should not do any damage.

Vinegar is very harsh on the hair. Make sure you use a really good conditioner afterwards.

No. It will smell alittle but will shampoo out. I have never heard this used for getting rid of lice or lightening it. Lemon juice will lighten in the sun and gasoline is an old, old remedy for lice removal. They now have much safer products in your drug store.
