Out of the 12,770 personnel who were wounded and not returned to duty within 72 hours in Iraq, about 500 have suffered loss of a limb. The total wounded can be found on the web site listed in the source below. Recent reports in several media outlets reveal that some of those amputees want to return to Iraq and fight again.
It apparently isn't the mournful tale told in the original lyrics of the folk song "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again" about Irish veterans of the Crimean War.

You're infinitely more of a man than one who sat in the comfort of his home abusing the freedom of speech, a freedom won and kept by those who paid the price of freedom.

You're infinitely more of a man who bad-mouths his country, its leadership, its military, and hypocritically flies an American Flag from his car and sports a magnetic "support the troops" sticker.

Do these heroes get the "muddy end of the stick"? If they do, it's the likes of those who make such inane statements that give it to them.

I go to the market and see fat, lazy people riding around on those courtesy electric carts provided for people who are legitimately injured or disabled. I tell them, "If a disabled vet comes through that door... you're on the floor."

Been there... done that... long ago. I was lucky... I came back all in one piece.

My son (a Marine) had a friend who lost a leg in Iraq. Last I heard (about a year afterward) he didn't feel any less a man. I've spoken with several disabled vets of this war who say it was absolutely worth it.

Contrary to what the media are telling us, they are making a difference there. The sacrifices our vets make are sometimes very difficult for them to deal with, and for us to understand. In talking with them, I've found that the ones who focus on the reasons why they went there and what they've been able to accomplish are the ones who cope best with their injuries.

To address the question, yes, such a veteran would very much still be a man. In fact, he would be much more a man than someone who sat in the comforts of his living room and did little more than type ignorance into his computer all day.

Anyone who served/serves in the united states military, during any war (or even in times of peace, for that matter) deserves true, legitimate respect. End of story.

A real man is a military patriot, but You are SO RIGHT. I agree completely.

I am so much like you and I have been programed too by the liberal news media on CNN, MSNBC and public channels that will say anything for money, even propaganda. I also learned from my favorite stars in Hollywood how to talk bad about our President and undermine and make fun of his administration's efforts, just the way the enemy wants me to. I'll even protest our soldiers and our military if my favorite band suggests the idea to me. And for my ego's sake, I'll say I am a free thinker and freedom lover. And I will taunt and blame anyone who is not in agreement with you and me and twist what they say to prove they are wrong and I am,right to further beat my chest. Ahhhhhhhhhh. Then I will saturate you with inaccurate facts and useless conspiracy theories of what I learned on liberal blogs and Union backed (democratic) newspapers. I will take whatever I see on the comedy news channel as truth for I too am gullible and feel special repeating it. Because we are so short sighted, I'm betting you only read the first line of my answer.

You are more of man with less than you are with more.
It is a general principle.
Anyone can be a man when everything is easy. A real man is a man when it is difficult.

The only question I have for you after reading most of your posts on YA is "what do you want to be when you grow up?"
