It depend where you live. when i was in WI I was making about 10 hr for in home care but now that I'm in GA I'm only making 8.50 an hr. If I was in your situation I would get her everything she needs to take care of him and also help her out as much as I can. But if you want to figure out how much you should pay her you should call an at home nurse staffing agency in your area and see how much they would charge you to take care of your father. Good Luck.

Financial help is great, but honestly she will need to be relieved for a day at least once a week, or more often as his illness progresses. I was looking into care for my Father, although not Alz disease, the going rate in So Cal was $15.00 per hour with a minimum of 5 hours per day. Different Personal Care Assistant companies set up different rules. And sometimes, the Pers Care Asst would want to charge a different rate, and more or less hours as minimum or base rate. Spending your time one day a week would also be appreciated I'm sure.

There isn't any amount that is sufficient for what she is doing. God Bless her! She is an Angel of Mercy. My Aunt is in a home, she has early onset of Alzheimers. It runs around $6000/ month.

u know u could always help out by being there, or giving her a break. sometimes when it comes to helping out family, money isn't always the answer. but i bet if she had a break for 2 to 3 hours and just had some time to herself, that would mean more than anything to her. and knowing that shes got ur help, and that shes not the only one to care for ur dad. i think that would mean alot to her.

Besides finding out the actual cost of the care she gives him (food, meds, electricity, etc), the actual time she spends providing care should be taken into account. Of course, your actual income resources should also be taken into account, if your finances are not that stable, I imagine your sister would understand.

Maybe you could find out what the average hourly wage for in-home nursing care is, and base it on that.

If I were your sister I wouldn't want money. Maybe a break once or twice a month, if your willing and able.

ask her to figure up abt how much she spends each month out of her budget...
then split it...
i think that is a very reasonable way to figure this out...
