Actually, the historical record disagrees with you.

Even the Bible condemns celebrations such as Christmas.

So, we're just enjoying having some time with our families -- you, on the other hand, are sinning.

I'd say this is the case of the pot calling the kettle black but in this case, you're being a hypocrite, and the atheists aren't.

----------

Read your Bible. Jesus was born either mid spring or late-summer/early fall.

He was definately NOT born in December.

Look up Festivus, look up Sol Invictus, look up Saturnalia. Notice how those pagan holidays were celebrated.

Then look at how Christmas is celebrated.

Those holidays predate the birth of Jesus but yet... everything about Christmas can be found in those pagan holidays, even the concept of a man-god being born on December 25th (Mithras).

Christmas was entirely ripped off from the pagans, and that is a matter of historical fact. Your hysterics about celebrating a pagan holiday do not change that fact.

Have fun celebrating a pagan holiday.

----------

Jesus numerous times preached against participating in pagan rituals.

All of the rituals, including nativity scenes, predate Jesus (the original infant was Mithras), and were celebrated by pagans.

All that changed is the name you call the baby and the parents.

You are celebrating a pagan holiday.

Tell me, the Bible is pretty specific on when the Resurrection occured -- why is it not accurate at all when the Nativity happened, if the Nativity is supposed to be celebrated?

Further, there is no record of a celebration of the Birth of Jesus prior to about 400AD. Seems like if it was so important, the Apostles would have written about it in Acts.

Virtually all biblical scholars agree that Jesus was not born in December, but most likely summer. Also, there was no christmas until the early church needed to usurp the pagans holidays and started celebrating christs birth at the exact same time the pagans celebrated Mithra. Also, 98% of christmas is just commercialism and we get a holioday. Whats not to celebrate.

Oh, how I wish you were being ironic. I'm not sure whether to cry or drink. Most towns have something called a library where you can research items of interest. Failing that, you obviously have internet access, so try googling christmas and pagan holidays. It'll help out a lot.

Christmas IS a pagan holiday that Christians stole to use to celebrate the birth of their messiah. Jesus would not have even been BORN in December.
Christmas trees are pagan symbols. They have nothing to do with the birth of Christ.
Mistletoe is a pagan fertility symbol. Again, has nothing to do with Christ.
You should go study a little about what it is you claim to believe before making such ("duh") statements. You don't even know the origins of your own holiday.

Sorry, Just because you try to usurp the mid-winter festival does not mean that everyone else has to stop having a good time.

Do you know that the Puritans, who understood their religion a lot more that you appear to, actually banned Christmas because it was fundamentally a pagan celebration? It was not brought back because of the people clamoring to get back into church, but by people clamoring to get back their pagan traditions.

Don't believe me? Fine, but go do the research. However I suspect that you will just hand wave this away and ignore the reality of the world.

I don't see how putting up a dead tree and giving people presents has anything to do with Christ. Anyway, i set up a dead tree and give people presents as a way to celebrate a holiday in which others do the same.

And I DO believe in Christmas, just not that a magical Carpenter was born on that day.

Wow, you are ignorant and uninformed. Christmas DID come from mostly Pagan backgrounds first off. Do you really think December 25th is JCs birthday??? LOL its NOT!! Not even close actually.

Second, just because we dont believe in a God does not mean we dont enjoy a Holiday that brings family together, and promotes peace. I love Christmas I think its a wonderful holiday and I dont have to BELIEVE in "YOUR" God to think so.

Erm, if you actually did a bit of reading, paganism gave rise to the current version of Christmas that most people practice today. A little research wont hurt you, I promise!

Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if you were the one dishing out thumbs-down to anyone that doesn't agree with your view.

Wake up and realize that christmas is based on Pagan holidays. You're too ignorant to do your own research.

Now now, don't be like that. I don't celebrate the birth of Jesus or Santa Claus. Mr. Hanky comes to visit me every year, by coincidence really, on December 25.
