Yes Saudi Arabia is an ally to the US. We have a mutual enemy, Iran. Iran is shia, Saudi Arabia is Sunni. We need their oil, They need us as a buyer of their oil.

With regards to 9/11, some people think the Saudi govt authorized the 19 Saudi hijackers to do 9/11. Why would they do that? We are the country that keeps the Saudis rolling in gold. To blame the Saudi govt for 9/11 would be like blaming the city of Buffalo NY for Timothy McVeigh's attack on the Oklahoma federal bldg. McVeigh grew up and went to school in the Buffalo area.

Saudi Arabia likes the money Americans pay for oil. It likes to keep the United States happy. I do not know if we are official allies, though, but we act like it.
