Whats the the correct name for someone who lies about themselves even though the person they are lying to knows they are lying? is this a mental illness?

Someone i know told someone today they were married when they are not there was no reason to lie!

Is this person mentally ill?

compulsive lying is not a mental illness, but a habit that needs to be broken! seriously, confront this person. they need help with it

...some people simply don't like themselves and their own lives...hence they sometimes lie! Only thing is "the lie" simply ends up making things turn out ten times more irresponsible then if they'd absolutely simply told the truth in the first place really...what else?

no they are a liar. I"m sure there's a mental illness word for it, it's just plain sin- lying.
