Hello G xy!

The saints are beings in the flesh that lived some time ago among the other human beings.

First that everything is to clarify from when there are saints.

There are saints according to the Old Testament, as David, Abraham, Moses that were big followers of God when he prepared the the way to the salvation, after Adam's sin.

There are saints of the new testament that are people that the Catholic Church calls saints and martyrs, because, like in the case of the children of Nativity, they are sacred innocent, dead without opportunity of arriving to the sin.

Others are the well-known and not well-known saints that November 1o 2 are commemorated, and refers to the martyrs of the Christianity during the 300 years of judeo-Roman persecution.

When the Christianity triumphed, new saints arise, people that were died in other places when evangelizing. Also people that lived according Jesus teachings all its life and in life or after dead, they produced miracles, that is to say, facts contrary to the natural laws.

Today we know that the saints are not gods, but people that had a special relationship with God. That God allows them to make miracles in some cases. That they are good to know that it is possible the personal relationship with God. That according to the Apocalypse, they take the sentences of the alive ones before God.

As you see, they are good for many things and their histories are very edifying so that people have good examples.

Luck!

I need to apologize my non grammatical English.

Saints are people that did great and holy things in their life. Not necessarily anyone can be a saint--the person must be canonized, and in order to be canonized there must be proof of them preforming a miracle in their life. Each saint is a patron of something (for example, St. Anthony is a saint that you pray to when you lose something so he helps you find it).

and to miller:
Catholics are Christians, and Catholics have saints also. A Christian is anyone who believes in Christ.

Depends on your point of view. For example, I don't believe in "named" saints. I believe that the Bible calls all believers "saints." In that case, the function of saints is to encourage me in my walk with Christ. (See I Corinthians 12)

In the Catholic faith they basically take the place of the pantheon of former "pagans". In fundamental Christianity saint is another term for Christian. It means someone who is sanctified to God.

The Saints (holy men and women of God) serve to encourage our faith, strengthen our hope, and increase our love for god and each other. We are all one Family in Christ (Eph. 3:14-15) and because of this, they assist us in our times of necessity through their powerful intercession in heaven, since, living or dead, we are all united to Christ who is the head of us all (the church). Through him who is the only mediator between god and man, we imitate his role through subordinate mediation / Intercession for our fellow men. (1 Tim 2 1-5)

"Being more closely united to Christ, those who dwell in heaven fix the whole Church more firmly in holiness. . . . They do not cease to intercede with the Father for us, as they proffer the merits which they acquired on earth through the one mediator between God and men, Christ Jesus . . . . So by their fraternal concern is our weakness greatly helped."
