First, I'm seriously delighted that you are using the condoms:) Good responsibility!
Okay, that which you speak of is a common occurrence. To ensure a satisfying experience when using a condom chose a latex, lubricated one. Start with foreplay which includes adding a little bit of Vick's--yes Vick's vapor rub--just a dab..not even a fingernail full--to the tip of his penis before applying the condom..
Also, prior to putting it on, don't "stop" and make a big deal out of it. For instance don't announce that "now the condom will be opened and placed upon you"..kinda makes a guy shy..I have also used ingenious ways to apply it too like: I put it in my jaw and then give him a few licks and then slip it on..I apply a just a bit of K-Y, warming lotion, etc. No vaseline or baby oil--it may break the condom..
When the condom is applied many men say that it "kills" the sensation.. This is mainly bc after a few "thrusts" the inside of the condom becomes dry and the penis gets chafe--ouch! If you lubricate the inside of it, I've found it to be a more pleasurable experience..Also, there are female condoms as well. However, be aware that they do not offer as much protection as a "full" male condom. In other words there is a 10% chance that you can still get pregnant or contract an Std or HIV...

First - don't make a big deal about it. If it's happening and he's getting frustrated about it - he's probably worrying about it happening before it does. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Many of the previous answers offer great advice - keep things going (kissing, touching, etc). Just tell him it's okay and move on, giving him a little more attention. If that doesn't help, it's time to go to the doctor for a prescription.

Work on putting on the condom as part of foreplay. Instead of totally stopping the action, walking across the room and getting one out, then opening it and fumbling to put it on, practice a lot so you can get good at it! Keep it under the pillow till you're ready to use it, then keep kissing him and doing whatever you were doing while you put it on him.
If he gets soft, just ignore it and go back to foreplay. Focusing on it causes anxiety, which causes it to keep happening.

play with him while your putting on the condom to make him not go soft. its not the best part of sex and no guy rele likes it so make sure you stimulate him while putting it on (kissing/playing with testicles, etc)

Use your mouth to put the condom on him. Crass? Maybe, but trust that he will not go flaccid.
