There's not neccesarily any pysical HARM in letting your son watch movies, the concern professionals have with all this TV watching is that there are so many BETTER choices for kids to be doing, like playing games and being more interactive with other humans rather than electronics. Just think of when you've gotten really immersed in a good movie. You know there wasn't much stimulation going on, you were zoning out. Think about how different it would be if you were sitting around discussing that same movie with some friends. How much more interactive you all would be!! TV does the same thing to kids- they just zone out, and there's not really much going on in their brains. They need to be interactive to truly learn the things even "educational" shows and videos act like they teach. Kids also need to be physically active as much as possible, but when you're watching TV or a computer, you're just sitting on your butt doing nothing.

You said that letting him watch a TV/laptop is an easy way to feed him. Have you tried talking to him about the food? You could name all the foods he's eating, talk to him about how the plants grow, how they help his body grow big and strong, (That milk will help your bones grow strong! And those carrots will help your eyes see 'puppies'! or whatever he likes), that sort of thing. Ask him questions about the food to help build his vocabulary. That will keep him busy and be much better for his brain.

Hope this helps~

I sure hope not since my daughter watches movies on the laptop too.
