I would look up to God in prayer & get divine direction of the Holy Spirit. It is written that the Holy Spirit will give us the words to say when the occasion arises. So? I will claim that verse.
If someone asks on here. I like to direct them to http://www.billygraham.org & to click on 'How to know Jesus Christ' & 'Committing your life to Jesus Christ'.
I can't tell you what I would actually say to them. I would say what scripture the Holy Spirit brings to mind & in the way the Holy Spirit directs me. Because it has to be done correctly for this person & done in the presence & love of God. Every body is different.
So? If someone is asking you, check the Billy Graham web site. The Romans Road is a good one also.
That we are all sinners. Everyone has sinned against God somewhere or somehow. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. God so loved us while we were yet sinners, that Jesus shed His blood for us to redeem us from our sins. Jesus died for us. Since He Is without sin, sin couldn't keep Him in the Grave. Jesus raised from the dead victorious over death for us. So us who believe in Him will be raised up like Him on redemption day compete. Where we will say, "Sin, where is your power?" or "Death where is your sting?".
That whosoever confess Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, Lord & Savior of their life &believe in their heart He raised from the dead, shall be saved.
These are just verses that come to mind right now. From the Holy Spirit through my spirit & my fingers.
There is no other Name given by whome anyone can be saved. Jesus. Whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
And coincidently, even people who ended up in outer darkness or the gates of hell, when they called on Jesus Name. Jesus heard them, & then they came back to life & shared their story.
Also, to add that it is important to be dressed in the full armor of God according to Ephesians 6. Belt of Truth. Breastplate of Righteousness. Feet with shoes on & prepared with the Gospel of Peace. Shield of Faith. Helmet of Salvation. The Sword of the Spirit that is the Spoken Word of God. Praying & interceding in the Spirit for others... And praying the utterance may be given to be bold & make known the mystery of the Gospel.

have you ever sinned or hurt another person ?
sometime you may want to be forgiven for that but no one on earth can do it but when u feel that u r sorry think on this --a man, born of a virgin definitely was born and lived a sinless life (he was watched) He performed miracles and willingly went to the grave as payment for all sin (past present future)
-why was his death a payment for all sin -cause only a perfect one could pay the price (certainly a sin filled one couldn't )he ( Yeshua ) is the 2nd Adam
the first got us into trouble He got us out !
so all of us are saved corpses
but that's not enough for most --I want life !
and that's what he left behind as a gift --the holy Spirit which when faith and repentance occurs energizes us --God in me --that's Grace which helps me and you to become more and more like Jesus
Thats the good news , the gospel -that faith in what He did has freed us from the sting of death
grasp the gift of eternal life in the annointed one -Yeshua
by faith , not by your works --today
be blessed

I usually use a little booklet that can be found at Christian bookstores. "The Four Spiritual Laws", or "The Bridge Illustration" are two I've used. "The Four Spiritual Laws" can also be found at http://www.godlovestheworld.com. I just basically read it to them and answer questions they have.
If I don't have a booklet handy, I use the "Romans Road", which I summarized here. I usually explain it a bit more, but here is the basics of it:
Romans 3:10 - No one is righteous.
Romans 3:23 - All have sinned.
Romans 5:8 - While we were sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:12 - Since Adam sinned, we have a sin nature.
Romans 6:23 - The wages of sin is death (separation from God).
Romans 8:1 - With Christ, there is no condemnation.
Romans 10:9 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
If I use the Romans road, I also usually quote Ephesians 8:9-10 and Isaiah 64:6 to explain that we don't get to Heaven by doing good works or by being good. That seems to be a common misunderstanding.
Then I ask them if they would like to ask Jesus to forgive them of their sins and ask Jesus to be their Lord and Savior.

Well, you've done the hardest part already. the approach that a church member should take to explain the bible vaires from person to person. First of all, realize his/her needs. Is this person thinking of conversing or just trying to understand catholicism or other Christian religion?
the best thing to in any case is to provide him/her with a modern revised version of the bible. i would strongly recommend that you ask this person to read from the 4 gospels first and understand most of the Christian doctrine. The old testament could be a bit confusing to a beginner.
The second thing to do is to take him/her to a Sunday mass and let him/her see how the modern church interpret the bible in the sermons. BUT remember what i said earlier; find out why he/she wants to read the bible. after all, you can cook all you want but you can't force-feed it to anyone.
Good luck!

Umm.. you kind of have to have a plan but this is what I would actually say, no joke. I didn't sit there thinking about it for minutes or hours...it's just the first thing that would come to my mind to do.
I would simply tell them my short testimony and tell them the gospel.. Jesus died for your sins and has made a pathway to God if you will accept him in faith and ask forgiveness of your sins you will be one of His children.

Assuming that the person already has some basic knowledge of God and sin?
"God sent His son, Jesus, to this earth to live among us. Jesus lived a sinless life, and while he was here he performed miracles and taught his disciples. The religious leaders at that time hated Jesus, and plotted to kill him. Jesus knew what they were planning, and was ready for it. He knew that the only way that humans could be saved from their sins was if he, as a spotless and sinless sacrifice, died for their sins. When they came to get Jesus, he told his disciples not to fight them. He said that if he wanted to, he could call a legion of angels to rescue him. But he chose not to, and he was crucified on a cross for the sins of the human race. But three days later, God raised him from the dead. For forty days he appeared to his disciples and talked with them, and then, while they were watching, he ascended into heaven to sit at God's right hand. But he sent the Holy Spirit to help and guide the disciples, and he promised that he would come back."

I'm so glad that you want to hear what I have to tell you, and if you have any questions along the way, please just butt in and ask me, okay? Great!
There is one God, who created all the universe and everything in it. He created everything to be good and wonderful. But along the way, things went terribly wrong and man disobeyed God. God was not happy about man's disobedience and, like any good father, had to discipline man. But God really LOVES us, and really doesn't want to be separated from us, but He had to find some way to figure out this "discipline" thing. So, He figured out that the only way to bring man back to be "right" with Him was to put the punishment for man's disobedience on His only Son, Jesus.
So, He sent His Son to earth to become a man, and live His life AS a man, but Jesus was never disobedient to God. But He also understood that He had to be punished....
Have a blessed day.

I would first turn to Acts where Peter preached the gospel to Cornelius, and point out what happened when Cornelius and his friends and family believed what they were told. I would also point out other examples of the gospel being preached by Peter and Paul, and ask them what similarities they see.
I would also ask them what a false gospel would be.

It would depend on the situation... if someone asked me over yahoo answers then I'd prob be like "why don't you start by reading the book of John. Its the fourth book in the bible and will give you a good look at the life of Christ."

First I would give them my "short" testimony about what Jesus has done in my life. - Not too long or they will stop listening. And then I would follow with the Romans Road opening the Bible and showing them the passages. I have them marked in my Bible, so I can be prepared.
The Romans Road to salvation is a way of explaining the good news of salvation using verses from the Book of Romans. It is a simple yet powerful method of explaining why we need salvation, how God provided salvation, how we can receive salvation, and what are the results of salvation.
