Will I ever have the need for four usb ports? This is in reference to the 40gib PS3 and the 60/80gib PS3. Much rather only spend $400 on a ps3 instead of the $500 if I don't need the extra ports and seeing as I rarely play PS2 games.

We find that we use three . We use one for our external hard drive that is hooked up thatwe have 160gigs of music etc.. on it. We use one for recharging the controllers and the other we use for jump drives, the psp or if we want to print emails we hook up the printer to it.

Both answerers bring up good points, keep in the the usb ports on the PS3 can be used for numerous things, for instance keyboard and mouse, the playstion eye, recharge the controllers, connecting to an external hard drive, connecting to a printer, connecting to an ipod or other usb device. So conceivably you could use three without any 2nd thoughts, recharging a controller, usb hard drive and the playstation eye.
Don't forget the Rock Band bundle is also going to use one (or more).

You probably will never use all of the 4 USB ports.

But lets just say if you had 3 other people playing the Playstation 3 with you at the same time and their controller batteries were all about to die, it would be good to have 4 USB ports because more controllers can be charged at one time.

I haven't used all 4 of my USB ports for my 60GB PS3 yet, but some people probably will.
