Fasting is neither healthy nor is it a successful weight-loss strategy in the long term.
Look: Weight loss is really quite simple; there are only two things you need do to reach your goals:
1. Restrict daily calories to 1600 calories per day. By increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat, you will be able to keep your intake at this level without feeling hungry or uncomfortable.
2. Exercise for one hour a day, every single day. It can be anything from pilates to just plain walking, but do it. One hour. Every day.
This is a pretty simple recipe for weight loss, but it works. It has worked for me; I have lost 62 pounds this way. It will work for you if you commit to it and stick to it.
Good luck!

I am amazed that the "BEST" answer was the "PREACHY ANSWER" exactly what the person asked NOT to write. WHO decides on the best answer?? Sitting in judgement with so little information and preaching what this person most likely already knows is condescending and furthermore DOES NOT ANSWER THE QUESTION!!!! Is there a panel at YAHOO who decides this?
Being compassionate and wanting to share solid advice with a stranger is great, when offered AFTER answering the original question.
The answer she was looking for was answered several times in different ways:
YES, it s okay since it s allowed during a fast before a fasting blood draw.
YES, but try replacing it with hot water instead
NO, because it has ingredients it.
Personally, I think trying to replace coffee with hot water might be the "healthiest" choice to do while fasting. Many nutritionalist state that allowing the body to FAST for 12 hours (8am - 8pm) is very healthy by allowing the body time to absorb nutrients, repair and rest.

RE:
Can you drink coffee while fasting?
My mom recently lost 40 lbs by incorporating occassional fasting into a healthy lifestyle of diet and exercise. I've recently gained about 10 lbs and am trying to get back on track myself so I'm going to try fasting to see how my body reacts. The problem is that given the bore of my job, I need...

There is nothing bad about coffee except one. The coffee with the effect of the caffeine will help you not to feel hunger for 1-2 hours but then because of the rebound phenomenon at the stomach, the acidity will increase and you might feel hunger. If you do not have any problems with your stomach such as gastritis or ulcer, coffee might be a good remedy to forget your hunger during fasting.

There is important research currently going on in this area. web search for Dr. Valter Longo at USC.
Listen: fasting SAVED MY LIFE. I was being tortured TO DEATH by a horrific "dermatitis" (another doctor word for "I don't know") where the skin was literally rotting off my face, gyrating between raw oozing hamburger and crusitng scabs that itched like nothing you can even begin to imagine....NOTHING the MDs did worked save a a brief 5-day respite after a steroid injection (there are people who get by with 6 or 8 week cycles of this, mine came back in a week). I juice fasted for a week--later corresponded with Dr. Longo and he said they had just begun a test protocol of 4-day vegetable juicing for people with exactly my untreatable condition (this was Nov. of 2015). I have since replicated the procdure twice (my condition is dietary related).
There is a YouTube by a guy who had mild dermatitis and solved it with 4 days on plain water. But juicing worked for me, it's easier for most people to sustain. Try (fresh squeeze ideally) citrus AM and V8 or facsimile product PM (my personal favorite is mixing fresh squeezed carrot and beet in with the tomato base.)

I am a practicing intermittent faster and yes, it is healthy. And, yes you can drink coffee as long as it is black. You need to avoid calories until meal time. IF has helped my body to respond to exercise. My periods have gone from 7 days to 5 days. I always make sure that my first meal is a hearty one with some form of protein ( chicken, beef or fish is what I prefer ), 2 servings of fruit and vegetables ( I love collard greens cooked southern style and an avocado/tomato/onion salad ). I sometimes complete my first meal with a strawberry parfait. Now dinner is usually lighter with a serving of protein and a serving of a vegetable.I also eat throught the 4 hour feeding period where I have nuts, veggies, cheese, salomy, low carb crackers. Now I do not snack throughout the 4 hour period. These are just my selections for snacks if I desire them.
I began doing this in April and I lost 10 lbs and I my health has improved. One thing for certain, my joint pain has improved emensely.
Oh BTW, coffee is good for you.

I'm not totally sure, it would probably get into your system very quickly if you're fasting, but I do know that coffee speeds up the metabolism.

I draw blood and when we tell patients to fast for a blood test
they are allowed black coffee. So, I would say yes, you can drink black coffee : )

I'm sure if you have a cup or two while fasting it can't hurt. But don't overdo it with the coffee or the fasting won't work.

Fasting IS healthy for you. But I would avoid coffee during this time, due to acidity of it in the stomach. Best bet is just water.
