If you didn´t notice, then this is "Religion and SPIRITUALITY". Spirituality covers many many subjects and does not only concern those of religions.

Now, I could ask you: "What does a religious person do in an atheist environment?" Isn´t that like trying to make an ant survive in a fishtank?

Because they're interested in religion & belief. Atheism is really a religion in it's own right, if you think about it. For it is a belief system, & that's what a religion is. It's like the number 0. You could say hey i'm the number 0, because i'm the lack of something instead of something i'm not a number. Well that's ludicrous, 0 is a number. Just like athesim is a system of belief, saying that you don't believe in god, is a belief. So really i think they're just conning themselves, just like the presedential candidates that say, hey i'm not big government, i'm an outsider whos come to clean up washington. And then when they get in office & they're more big government than the last people that were in there lol. I mean somehow atheism has become this tricky thing to so many people & it's not. It's not tricky at all. I just hope that they'll understand that to push atheism, is no different than christians or muslims that push their beliefs. If people want an example of this they can simply look no further than the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union wished to suppress all established relgions. While communism & atheism are not exactly the same thing. One is something & the other is the lack of something. But i think many atheists have the same goal as communism in the sense that they wish to suppress established religions, at least to the point in which they are not an influence on society. And ultimately i think the "proud athesist" would like nothing more than christians, muslims ect. to be labled psychologically disturbed human beings. And have it be coined some sort of mental disorder to believe in such things. Not all, but the pround ones would love to see that happen. Well those are my thoughts anyway.

Why is it that people like you can't accept the fact that it's not against the law in this country for Atheists to discuss religion and spirituality with non-atheists?

I'm sorry if you don't like it, really I am, but you're argument is flawed and pointless. Perhaps if you Christians decided to read a book that wasn't found in the "Family Christian Book Store" you'd understand that experts are found on a topic coming from all walks of life, not just believers in the validity of that certain topic.

EDIT: Where in the question does it say "Atheists do not reply, Christians only!"? It doesn't say that, does it, you fool? I can tell you that your stupidity far out weighs your intelligence. You need to learn about the simple freedoms everyone is entitled to in the United States, be you from there or not. It does a person good to have morals.

I come here because I am curious to see what other people think, hear people's questions, and read the often (sadly) lacklustre responses.

Someone who is not emotionally tied to a religion is more likely to give unbiased responses to questions about that religion than someone who is a believer. Non-believers are more likely to ask questions and raise doubts about a religion (a potential convert is more likely to ask questions than someone born into a religion, for instance) and therefore more likely to know more about a religion than someone who has lived it and is comfortable and complacent with their belief.

So, sometimes, an atheist is a better person to ask about christianity than a christian. I know that I've spent more time studying christian history and theology than 90% of the christians I know, for instance.

If I may share a personal life experience, I spent at least a decade of my life researching the mormon religion. I grew up in it, became curious, researched it, and lost faith. And kept on researching it.... it amazes me how people will buy into just about anything, if it's packaged right (and totally gloss over the ugly underpinnings...). I am a good resource for questions about the mormon church. Not great, because even though I've worked through most of the trauma, a good deal of bias (ie, anger and feelings of betrayal) still exist within me.

So an atheist *can* be a good resource for questions on a religion. As far as questions about how it feels to be a part of that religion, or the lifestyle, or other *subjective* questions about religious belief, atheists are on the average not going to be good resources.

And let's face it... non-believers can easily be as ignorant and stupid as believers. It's a human trait. If you're going to ask questions on a *public* forum, you get what you pay for, and have to take it all with grain of sand. You want biased results (many of which will still be ignorant and/or stupid) than go ask it in a christian-only forum.

I answer questions that appear in Society and culture, and R&S questions are "rolled up" there, just as all questions from all levels are shown in the top level.

I have an interest in the questions that I answer, generally I do not answer religion specific ones, unless it's clear that the answerers are fairly clueless.

Edit:
Way to early for an eye-opener but here goes *drink*

Edit 2:
Would you want a christian to answer your question or the people that you're talking about (atheists)? Who would know better why someone is here?

No, we are the real experts on the subject. Your analogy is bad. Anyone who refuses to see the contradicions and scientific errors in holy books of all religions needs some expert help for certain. I have reported people for saying outrageous things about us, so one must watch for such things. Recently, a couple had several libelous statements about us on YA recently, e.g. that we are gay and stink. Such people should not only be removed from YA but sued in court as well. Many believers lie outrageously about us.

no, sweetie, it's like having a problem with the phone line and calling an electrician for help. believing in ma bell is not a requirement for having a functioning telephone. believing in a god is not a requirement for having an opinion on religion or spirituality.

you might be surprised to know that some religions don't even have gods.

I am curious why christians come here and ask questions. They obviously do not want an answer different that what they have already formed so why ask the question other than to have a lot of people smile and nod and agree with you.

Nope.

We have very qualified opinions, unclouded by personal bias. Religion affects many aspects of our lives.

edit -- Dearheart, you do not have to specify who can and cannot reply. If you post here, ALL people have the right to reply, whether you like it or not. Moreover, brightstar, why ask a question and then exclude those about whom the question refers from answering? This tell s me you didn't want an answer at all -- you wanted to be a smart@ss. Well done indeed.

According to the Bible (Romans 1), an atheist knows his heart that there is a God and “suppress the truth in unrighteousness.” Though an atheist is blinded by Satan’s lies, he is made in image of God and has a longing in his heart to search and know God. That's one reason, why atheists hang around in R & S section and discuss God.
