Just bought a 2001 Corolla with a cassette player. Why does the stereo have a CD button when it apparently doesn't have a cd tray that pops out? Is this for an option to add later?

This is common - it's in case you have the trunk-mounted or under-seat CD changer. These were options that could be ordered with the car when new.

Well I looked it up and there was no cd changer offered anywhere on the car except for indash 6 disk. Are you sure you dont have a cd player? there should be a slot about 4 inches wide that you can put a cd in. Not many steroes out there have a tray that comes out. you normally just pop the cd into the slot provided. I think you have one just can't see it.

It probably has cd changer controls. The car might not have the cd changer but the the deck has it for a later option

Probably so....have you looked for a remote player like under a seat or in the trunk? Usaully they are in the dash though...below the stereo.
