What was he doing billions of years before humans existed on earth. Was he just sitting about somewhere contemplating what to do. It may not have been billions of years it may have been a billion times more. How then did he become whatever he or she is

Singcountrybreeze; If someone gives me an honest reply to my question I will accept that as an intelligent response. It is a difficult question to answer and perhaps it´s me that lacks intelligence.

While I respect the asking of the question, do you really think you are going to get a satisfactual answer to it. No one can give you an intelligent answer to this. But do keep in mind that a thousand years for us is but mere seconds in time for Him. There is the science end of truth, but not completely able to explain it all, right? There are some things that we will never know. Never were meant to know. I would rather live by my beliefs in God in case my beliefs are true, as opposed to not living by my beliefs in God and being wrong. What He has essentially asked of us is just too simple if you think about , not to do it.

If you take a cosmic view of god and the universe then you will realize that the univers is expanding, but possibly slowing down, and will then go through a big collapse kind of the opposite of the big bang. Then it will big bang again and another universe is off and running again. We are not the first, or only ones out here. You are right that it could have been going on for time inconceivable to the human mind.

this is a response to the guy who said that the universe is slowing down. That is actually not the belief held by most of the scientific community now. It is that the universe is expanding at a constant rate. Eventually all stars will have imploded or become supernovas and the universe will be a vaste emptiness. That isn;t to say that another universe couldn't be created to take the place of this one.

He is so awesome He created Himself. Ok only joking. But what if that's true? I'm a christian and I don't even know the answer to your question. No christian does. All I know is that He's the Alpha and Omega, and He's been here forever, but backwards. That sounds silly doesn't it? Oh well, all of us christians sound silly, don't we?
edit:rev ron, your answer seriously made me laugh so hard i almost spit out my eggs.

God is a concept created by humanity to answer questions that science hasn't been able to answer. Why does lightening strike...God of lightening...why does the sun shine...God of sun...etc, etc. As science advanced the need for the pantheon of Gods narrowed and now we have a single supreme God--it also supposedly served to simplify theology. Therefore your answer is that as long as there are unanswered questions there will be a God concept. PEACE!

The question is a problem of time. If time has always existed then God literally waited an eternity before he created. If time is not infinite, then it could not have been created, could not have a cause, since "cause and effect" only have meaning within time.

What Islam says is that God/Allah wanted to be known. Also time does not effect him because he created it and therefore cannot be subject to it unlike man.
