We have spelling b's competitions in america because English is tough to spell. But spanish is not really hard cause most sounds go hand to hand with spelling .

I've never seen any spelling b's in Hispanic TV. is there? and if there was, why would there be if spelling by listening is easy in Spanish.

In response to a previous post: the letter J is pronounced exactly the same way all the time in Spanish, so your example of the word "Jesus" is an example of how Spanish IS very phonetic. Comparisons with English (or Hungarian, for that matter) have nothing to do with the question of how consistently a letter is pronounced or how consistently a sound is written in Spanish.

Perhaps Spaniards wonder how English speakers got our weird pronunciation of the letter j. We didn't consult with them for permission to pronounce things our way; they didn't consult with us either.

Your second example is a good one though. Both "hola" and "ola" are Spanish words, and they are pronounced exactly the same, even thought they have different spellings and meanings.

Likewise the letter 'c" can have the same sound as "s" in spanish.

Still, spanish is much more phonetic than English. That is, it shows much more consistency between how it is written and how it is spoken than English does.

Spelling b's are not existing in Spanish speaking countries, because Spanish has very phonetic writing system. Accents are used in English Language, but are not written, in Spanish actually we do.

Spanish isn't as phonic as you think it is.. Look at the name "Jesus"... in Spanish, it's Heysuse.... how you get a "hey" sound out of "J", I don't know. Take hola (hello) the H is silent. I'm sure there are many other examples. You're right on the spelling B thing, I've never seen one either (not that I spend a great deal of time on the Spanish channels).
