The panasonic remote is a program director MB Universal. The NEC tv is so old that is doesnt have a menu or tv/video button on the TV itself, so I need a remote to use so I can connect and operate a DVD player from it.

NEC has been out of the TV market since the late '80s I believe.

First check to see if your remote has a "code search" function and if so, follow those instructions. You might get lucky.

Second, go to a big box store like BB or CC and look for a remote that still lists NEC as an option.

Third, go to the link below and ask if anyone has the original remote.

Fourth, almost forgot, maybe should be first thing to try. Old TVs sometimes put "video input" selection below channel 2. So, press "channel down" one or two times from channel 2 and see if that gets you there. Wouldn't it be great if this works? :)

Good luck!
