I really don't know if there's a god or not, and I don't think that anyone will ever be able to 100% dis/prove it. but a great part of me don't believe in god(90%),I really like the idea that we only live once,to feel nothing after we die.but I was born into a religous family and studied in a religous school and sometimes I get scared to think that there might be a place like hell....it worries me so much.what should I do?should I just believe in god and live my life?

Just be a good person. To me God doesn't judge us on how much we worshipped him, but how we treated other people. I don't view God as egotistical.

It isn't just "believing" in God, you have to follow his word, talk to him (prayer), walk with him every minute of the day. As for hell, that is eternal death -- that nothingness you spoke about. God promised us eternal life if we come to his through his son. When you look at the big picture, it is obvious we just didn't pop out of the "GREAT OOZE". JUst believing and living a good life isn't what God asked for -- he wants us to cherish him above all else. Agape love is greater than romantic love or brotherly love. Agape love is what got God to give us his son. It is all about FAITH. You either have it, or you don't. You either want it or you don't.

This is a complex question that requires a complex answer, so please bear with me here and read through my entire response.

First, I want to point out, in the words of Sherlock Holmes (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle), that "When the impossible has been eliminated, then whatever is left, no matter how improbable, must be the truth."

I can not prove God's existence (other than to say that "the proof is in the pudding", and people who have put their trust in Jesus have been drastically and dramatically changed by God's Word, the Bible, and you can see this transformation at any Teen Challenge center, as just ONE example.)

But it is easy enough to disprove atheism by looking at the evidence that contradicts the atheistic position of evolution.

First, I need to point out Charles Darwin based his theory on faulty science and poor logic (more on that in a minute). Anybody who knows anything about logic or debate can tell you that if the premise is faulty, then the conclusion will also be wrong.

The faulty science? Darwin actually believed that the cell is the smallest divisible part of a living thing! He then decided (no science behind this, mind you), that the "undesignated cells" within the foetus could be reshaped or reformed by external stimulii which would effectively change the outcome of the child, and thus diversify the animal kingdom!

Now, here are the facts (yes - you can actually do a google search on all this):

First, the cell is NOT the smallest divisible part of a living thing. Within the cell we have such things as a nucleus, the mitochondria, proteins and protein synthesis, DNA and RNA.

The mitochondria converts raw materials into usable energy within the cell, and the first step of the "energy conversion cycle" is to use up 1 or 2 units of energy. This contradicts the laws of known science such as entropy and the laws of thermodynamics. (More on this later).

The DNA is a double-strand of highly complex molecules tightly wound up in a helix format. The DNA is a complex data storage and retrieval system that contains code that controls the entire process of everything that takes place in the living thing that it is a part of. (More on this later).

The DNA uncoils itself, splits into two separate strands, attracts molecules (like a magnet) to itself to form a mirror image of itself called RNA, then recombines, and then coils itself back up into the helix form.

The information encoded within the DNA is so highly complex that the DNA has been compared to a Cray supercomputer, but the DNA leaves the Cray behind. (We all know that the Cray had to be designed, built, and even programmed by someone, is it possible that something even more complex than the Cray could result in a series of accidents?) The study of data and information systems will reveal that information can NOT EVER be the result of random bits. Ask any computer programmer if they could have a child unfamiliar with computers just type blindfolded to create a complex program such as the Windows XP operating system, for instance. No, the fact that the DNA is a highly complex data storage and retrieval system, that alone demonstrates the need for a highly intelligent Being to be behind the design, construction, and programming of this DNA).

Now, concerning entropy and the laws of thermodynamics and how it applies to life:

The laws of thermodynamics describe the way energy is spread in a closed system from a higher concentration of energy, to a lower level until all has eventually evened out, with no place for the energy to flow any more.

It is why a spring uncoils rather than coils itself, or a hotplate cools down when unplugged, rather than the hotplate getting hotter. Basically, it says that things are running downhill, unwinding, and levelling out. In other words, things move from order towards chaos (entropy).

For evolution to occur, or the mitochondria to function the way it does, this process must reverse itself without any external force being applied. Like watching water run UP hill (without a hidden motor), or a windup toy wind itself up without anybody touching it.

Evolution requires that the chaos in the universe suddenly reverse itself in order to bring about order! The mitochondria must be able to LOSE 1 or 2 units of energy in order to create MORE energy, random impulses must be able to suddenly generate data and information to encode the highly complex molecules that make up the DNA, et cetera.

Dr. Flue, an avowed atheist, while studying the DNA, had to renounce his atheistic position. He received a LOT of flack from his colleagues, but he said in an article (sorry, I don't know where it is), that he would have to commit intellectual suicide to continue believing in evolution, in light of what he has studied and learned about the DNA! He said it was much too complex to be relegated to a series of accidents, no matter HOW much time you give it!

Truely intelligent people DO renounce their atheistic position in the realization that there was some kind of intelligence behind the existence of Life.

Now, with all this in mind, going back to my original statement, "When the impossible (ie evolution and atheism) has been eliminated, then whatever is left (ie God), no matter how improbable, must be the truth."

NOW, go and read the life and times of Jesus Christ, as recorded by four of his close friends and followers, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and you will learn about what this intelligence is all about.

You've already made a choice to not believe that God exists, so then why worry needlessly about all the other stuff that you learned as a child????

You can't make yourself believe something that you already know is rediculous. You'd be better served reading up on the history of your religion. Once you realize how the concept of hell slowly evolved from the mere grave all the way to Dante's Inferno, you'll realize it can't possibly be a real place, and you won't fear it.
