Then try to buy locally. That means locally grown produce/meat etc.

I ask the same question all the time. I try to visit farmer's markets when I can along with other local farm stands. Also when things are cheap enough I buy extra and freeze or can it myself. It's extra work but it's worth it in the long run. If your lucky enough to have some space in your yard for a small garden, there is nothing like a homegrown vine-ripened tomato either.. or the sauce you can make from it =)
*** Beware Tourist Trap farm markets: many times the items they offer are just as expensive if not more than your local grocery store and the "local" produce is not always as local as you think. There is a farm market near my house that has "local honey" that's shipped from across the state and their pick your own pumpkin field is actually a field where they bring truckloads of pumpkins in and just put them in the field. Some are locally grown but many are not. I would suggest finding out where the local farm markets are and taking a free weekend to scout them out.

Mum
look at the real world
IT is a Marketing ploy
have we forgot hydroponic gardening..?
the seed will only osmosis the vitamins and minerals it needs to grow just as we do.. So much for fertilizer
as for the pesticides there is NO guarantee the goods are pesticide free after it leaves the farm.... all the warehouses,, trailers,, delivery,, storerooms,,then the produce shelf.
YOU know the grocery store has pest control.
I am sorry But I have never believed anyone who claimed they could taste the difference In cooked food.
IN the end you get your Organic food home and is goes int your un sterile frig and you wash it like any other common food.

As a grocery store produce manager,I say forget it. Nothing is truly organic. It is one big scam.I know, believe me.All fruits and vegetables are contaminated in one way or another by water, air, dirt,, Just because no pesticides are used does not, in the true sense, make the item organic.Buy regular and also get Vegetable Wash, a product that cleans all vegetables and fruit of pesticides etc. and makes the items much more like new. There are no chemicals in it and it sells for around $4.00. The bottle will last you, depending on use, about 2/3 weeks.

Don't waste your money on the stuff in the grocery that is labelled organic. In most cases, it is no different than the food that isn't labelled organic. They're just trying to make a buck and rip off people who are gullible.
Shop at local farmer's markets. Many of them are open year round, not just in the summer. And they're often a fraction of the price that the so-called 'organic' food at the grocery is, especially the produce.

Many grocery stores have their own line of organics, and they're cheaper than national brands. The Environmental Working Group website also lists which produce has the highest pesticide residue and which has the lowest. So some foods you need not buy organic, but others you do.

We had the same reaction - most of the organic products are crazy expensive. Our grocery store (Safeway) started their own organic brand last year and the prices are much more reasonable. Even better, their brand has a wider variety of organics than we were able to find elsewhere. Lovin' it.

LOL, yeah, you're right!
I'm guessing organic produce (no pesticides, no fertillizers) mean the overall yield is probably lower, due to insects and/or less rapid growing. So for the farmers to make a living, they've got to charge mroe per pound for their organic fruit/veggies.
Either that, or they're stiffing us.

I agree with you 100%,everything that is organic is so expensive. If you think regular milk prices are bad, just look at the prices of organic milk, eeekkk! I too would love to buy organic foods and milk, but organic stuff is so expensive,it is just ridiculous!
