My non-muslim brothers and sisters ,when you continue be positive towards the muslim community despite the occurence of terrorist attacks by certain misguided persons, the terrorists will fail to achieve their purpose because when people of any nation are united despite efforts by other persons to curb this unity with terrorism, the terrorism will get a tight slap on its face. ISLAM is a religion of peace and any terrorist in the guise of ISLAM is indeed an enemy of ISLAM. Please give your opinion and suggestions?

I think what you said is right on.

HOWEVERRRRR (since you asked for suggestions), I also think that here in the US, a lot of muslims (before AND after 9/11) don't get very involved with their communities. I understand a lot of that is cultural, but it's rare that I've ever even heard a friendly "hi" from a muslim neighbor, and I had a muslim coworker for 3 years who never chatted with anyone, never had lunch with anyone else, didn't take part in our community efforts etc. If you want people to understand Islam better and to be more accepting of muslims, then a smile and a friendly greeting are a good way to start. Let's not segregate ourselves, please!

I just want to add that I've also been great friends with 2 muslims, so this isn't just stereotyping and saying all muslims are unfriendly. I just think maybe a lot of people don't realize how much their own lives and interactions with their neighbors impact people's view of their religion or culture. In general I believe EVERYBODY could benefit from being a bit friendlier.

I think Islam's greatest weakness right now is the failure of it's leadership, united, and mass media format to condemn terrorism conducted in the name of Islam.

As often as violence is conducted in the name of Islam you would think leadership throughout the world would make a strong stance openly condemning the use of terrorist tactics and proclaiming that it is inherentlty evil and in no way in accordance in the Muslim message. Instead, you only see common remarks, such as yours, that Islam is a religion of peace. Until a widespread condemnatory message is repeatedly put forth by all mainstream Muslim leaders it is difficult for me as a non-Muslim to believe that least some maintream Muslims agree with the at least some of the actions / causes of at east some groups/organizations that most of the world would label as terrorists.

This is not to say that I believe all muslims are evil or anything, only that Islam as a whole has failed to put a loud message of condemnation of terrorism out there. Perhaps some leaders have, but if so then they have failed to use mass media to openly condemn violence, explicitly define what "jihad" really means and how it should really be conducted and when it is appropriate, and have instead only made comments of Islam being a religion of peace.

Until that actions of the Muslim leadership in this realm differs, I am forced to look down on the religion as a whole.

Religion, in general, tends to promote enmity between groups. It really doesn't matter whether you're talking about Christianity, Islam, Judaism or whatnot. You can pick nearly any two religions or even any two sects of religions and find where they've tortured and killed each other.

If we got rid of all religion, that wouldn't get rid of all the violence in the world. However, it would get rid of one of the main excuses for doing it.

When I see as many Muslims marching in the streets of Palestine and Iran to DENOUNCE the terrorists as to support them, I'll have a much easier time with this.

I remain totally unconvinced with what you say.

I need only look to the people who are members of The Baha'i Faith in islamic dominated countries to see the terrism they are being put through by islam.

Its takes alot to trust muslims.. period. you don't know if there is a bomb strapped to their waste or anything. The children look so innocent, yet some have bombs strapped to their waste, getting ready to kill himself and others around. It's so sad.

i agree. religious tolerance is key.

just like a christian who believes that any non christian should be converted to christianity or die, they are wrong and will pay for it in the end.
